Waiting for tests

Hi all,

Originally I went to a&e as my pulse missed a beat quite often. Would beat for 2 or 3 then miss one beat before carrying on. Had all the tests except echocardiogram. When having a chest x-ray the radiologist commented on my wide lungs. I let this pass. All heart tests proved nothing. Got told it was the way I was built. Tuesday evening I had a cigarette and after became slightly breathless and felt I had to keep catching my breath. This has continued into its second week now. I,m due for a COPD/asthma test this coming Wednesday. The pulse is still irregular and I have become more tired during the day so I lie down. I am not bringing up any phlegm nor do I have a cough just experiencing shortage of breath and tiredness. Bouts of anxiety causes dizziness on occasion. I guess I'll have to see what the extent of my condition is after the tests and what medication is required. Also have been referred to a heart clinic to have the heart monitored for 24hrs. I,m 65 on the 29 sept so hope to have plenty of years to get my state pension in my pocket. Sorry to go on but I do have stages of real concern

Hi Vinnie, "Got told it was the way I was built." I have had these 'missing beats' all my life and have been told the same, apparently it is not that unusual.

Re. breathlessness. Take this as an urgent warning from your body to quit smoking now. I was a heavy smoker and quit, cold turkey, when my body gave me the same warning but alas it was too late for me the damage was done. The fright of not being able to breathe totally overrode any withdrawal symptoms with me. Smoking has bestowed me with a) Severe COPD. b) Peripheral Vascular Disease in my legs. & c) Cardio Vascular Disease.

I hope you can get this resolved soon and can continue with normal life unfettered by anxiety.

Hi Vinnie

I have an irregular heart beat, the term being Atrial Fibrillation. I am on tablets for it and have been quite ok for years, so try not to worry too much. There are other options instead of tablets, it depends on your condition I suppose.

All the best.

Hi 2greys,

Thank you for your reply. I forgot to mention that I haven't smoked since that ciggie on Tues evening. 12 days now after 40 yrs+ of dragging on the weed. Like you I imagine the damage has been done but I fully intend not to make it worse. I've gone cold turkey too and it's not bothered me in the slightest. I certainly won't be buying one of those vapour sticks. Looks like a new pope is being elected the way the "smoke" belts out. Hope things go well for you.. Vince

Hi 2grays,

Thank you for your reply. I think my previous reply to you went to someone else.

Basically mentioned that I have given up smoking since that Tues evening which is some 12 days now. I've gone cold turkey too and it hasn't bothered me in the slightest which surprised me after 40+ yrs as a smoker. Like you the damage would've already been done but I'm not gonna let it get any worse. Just remembering how I felt when breathless is enough for me to keep off the cigs. I hope things go as well as possible for you. I'll update on any results I get. Best regards. Vince
