I'm definitely neurotic but I don't blame health sites. I think I was born this way. :)

Seriously, I think health sites can encourage brooding and getting over-excited by information that we don't really have the medical vocabulary or knowledge to understand. But balancing that against the valuable information you can get from them, I won't be giving them up anytime soon:)

Sometimes i wonder BUT do agree with you as source of information.

Guess its like those that walked on moon something never done befour SO expectations feelings guess all play a part.

That's a chicken and egg question , which came first?

I see though that NHS England are going to recommend a library of approved health apps so we can check out our health conditions.

Yes Jeff , a bit impersonal and what happens to those people with no internet access except for the local library ...if they still have one that is.

On the BBC news site today there is a quote from Mr Hunt about the new technology ' we will also in the next twelve months be having a competition because we think we need better apps than the ones that are available in the market'

'We don't want to develop them ourselves we want them to be developed by entrepreneurs who have the specialist knowledge and creativity to do this'

Hopefully I have quoted correctly from the BBC news website 7th September 2016

Best check

I am just wondering who these creative entrepreneurs will be?

in reply to knitter

Could be any of us but guess people already know who will be doing it.

But like you say people dont have internet let alone apps.

Health sites can be good for information, but overall I find them to be quite depressing. I personally choose to not think about my copd and just get on with life. Health sites can over excite and depress. With so many people sick with copd, and so many reaching out to others for comfort and guidance, we are them constantly reminded of our illness and how severe it can be. I too know this, but being reminded every time you log on is just too much. Please don't think of me as being harsh and heartless, I just choose to life my life as best I can, keeping the quality there and not thinking of the bad things, It actually helps and thinking this way and I have more good days than bad.

Hi Ditowler think your quite right really but do wish I could just sometimes forget guess it all depends on stages and what's going on .... great phylosaphy tho :)

Every time I use the NHS diagnostic tool it tells me I need to go to casualty, even when I know it's not that serious so I ignore it. So what happens when I use it and it is serious but I don't think so? Fortunately that hasn't occurred yet. (Answer, I have a chat with a pharmacist, who usually tells me to see a GP sometime soon.)

in reply to Ergendl

Hi Ergendi I try to stay away from them I tend to panic hyperventalate esp if says I need to go hospital

A lot of doctors don't like patients to self-diagnose....even when they are right. Should get Mr Hunt's NHS diagnostic tool/apps some interesting responses...

We can all be neurotic together! xxx

in reply to Tee1008

I try to stay clear of self diagnosing even tho do try influence my doctor at what to look at.

But you are right be interesting given tools what doctors feed back is.

I used to work with a psychiatrist who said we all all neurotic, it's just a question of how much!

Individual health sites not so much, not all the time. But it's more researching your issues on Google that does make folks neurotic it appears to me. There's so much information out there, on so may different websites, and far too much conflicting information. That's what does it!

They say you should never rely on Google for a diagnosis, and I tend to believe that's true!
