Cramps Be Gone!

Hi everyone

Since I've had the uti, I'm now having horrible leg cramps. This happens when I'm sleeping, in my calf muscles. Could there be a connection? Have started taking the antibiotic today. My calf muscles are so sore. Oxygen levels are good. Any ideas for me? I appreciate any help. Thanks

Could you be dehydrated? I know that can cause painful leg cramps.

rubyred777 profile image
rubyred777 in reply to Toci

Thats a thought, since with the infection I am peeing constantly!

Will try drinking more fluids. Then I'll be going all night!

Thanks Toci

Thanks Jean. Will let you know how I make out. You never get leg cramps? Thought they were pretty common. Wonder if it could have anything to do with

My vitamin D Defiencey.

Take care Jean

I think magnesium deficiency gives you cramps. Never heard of Vit D doing so. You could try supplementing with magnesium.

I hardly ever get leg cramps luckily. Hope yours go Ruby, xxx

This will sound daft but it has worked for me. Get a tablet of good soap, Ivory soap is best. Place it under the bottom sheet of your bed, ie. between the sheet and the mattress. Ivory soap can be purchased on line from Amazon and others. It is thought to be the magnesium in the bar which is essential, so look for any soap with magnesium in it.

Hi Evermore

I have heard this before and will try it. Mustard used to work for me. With the acid reflux, I don't think it would be a good idea now. Don't have ivory, but will try dove. Will let you know if it helps. Sure would be an easy fix!

Thanks

I don't think Dove will work, I think I have heard it doesn't have magnesium - check it out first.

I'm heading to sleep soon so will have to do for today. Will get ivory when I go out later. See what happens! 😊😊.xx

Get your Tonic Water while you're out! Xx

Ventolin causes this in my husband - Indian tonic water really helps xxx

Hey Tadaw

I have never tried that one.

You keep some by the bed? How much does he drink? I actually started getting the cramps, since I have the uti. Seems like I'm peeing so much, has something to do with it.

Thanks

Rubyxx 😊

in reply to rubyred777

How annoying for you - yes he keeps it at the side of the bed and sips is during the night and drinks a couple of big glugs when the cramps come. Morrisons sell it in small bottles. Good luck xxx

i think there is a connection Ruby with you having that uti bother, p.ing a lot , loosing valuable minerals etc.

Although i'm certainly no expert,

i have bad leg cramps, due i think, to taking heavy doses of furosemide [water tablets ] as my bladder doesn't work, but my catheter bag fills unbelievably quick. often a nuisance.

with losing so much "water " either way i,e catheter or uti.

im now quite sure it's a mineral or vitamin deficiency

i know quinine helps cramps,

But i have found by taking "movical "

[my bowels are problematic too :D i've got the lot ha ha ]

but i sachet of movical wont bother you much really, but it contains many valuable vitamins and minerals,

But really i would just put up with it ruby,[hard as it is ] i'm sure it will disappear [the cramp, not your leg :D ] when this uti gets better with the antibiotics and you rehydrate yourself, meanwhile drink plenty water, and p lots :D and keep smiling :)

hope things improve.:)

lots of love jimmy xxx :)

Hi Jimmy

Always good to chat with you.😊

How are you feeling? Sorry to hear you have leg cramps alot. They are very painful. I could barely walk when I woke up. Legs are still sore. I agree about the minerals. Before this infection, I was fine. What is the sachet of movical?

Never heard of it.

Thanks Jimmy

You are a wise man!

I get bad cramps in the night as well. Try drinking lots so not dehydrated. I take quinine tablets. Also Google exercises for leg cramps. I found a simple stretching exercise that meant to do few times a day. It has helped me a lot.

Hi sorry to hear this Ruby.

I may be repeating someone else's reply but Tonic Water (the kind you put in gin) always helped my foot cramps. it's the quinine in it that's the magic ingredient. P

rubyred777 in reply to peege

Hi Peege

Didn't get my tonic water yet.😊 Last night didn't get cramps. But instead had spots on my legs that hurt if I touched them! Whats that all about?

Rubyxx 😊

peege profile image
peege in reply to rubyred777

Oh dear Rubes, are the spots blister like and are your legs a bit swollen? If so, it could be water. If the spots are blister like take care not to break the skin. When you sit put your feet up making sure ankles are higher than hips.

I should think it's something to do with the uti. It's been a while now and I expect your kidneys are working overtime. Best inform the doc I think. He/she will tell at a glance what it is.

let me know how you get on. P xxx

rubyred777 profile image
rubyred777 in reply to peege

Hi Peege

No blisters. Just areas that hurt to touch. Guess the nerves in my legs. Last night just had cramp in one leg. Rubbed bar of soap on it. It actually helped! Didn't go into full muscle spasm.

I don't normally have these cramps. Something to do with urinary pain pills or something. Ever hear of

NITROFURANTOIN antibiotic?

peege in reply to rubyred777

Ouch. I wonder if it's something called bursitis or burs titis (can't spell it, I only set my alarm for 6am to take the blooming steroids with 2 oatcakes)!

Perhaps you'll have time to look it up before bed. It's a very sore thing, I have a patch on one leg.

I'll look up that antibiotic when I wake up properly in a couple of hours. P xxx

rubyred777 profile image
rubyred777 in reply to peege

I've never taken steroids. Don't they keep you awake? Didn't know you were feeling poorly. Hope you feel better soon.

Rubyxx 😊

peege profile image
peege in reply to rubyred777

I rarely take them, they make me feel so ill but they do help so many to breath & 'feel good'.

I've a new GP because I moved towns so I must do as I'm told (well, that's impossible so I'm taking less than he told me to for a slightly longer time).

I woke later with a bit of a spark, at long last so will shower, do hair, get dressed properly, mascara & a bit of lippy to take poor Lola pup out who's a bit frustrated & eating a flowerpot at my feet.

I'm going to look up yr antibiotic now. Do you get the leaflets left in the packets like we do over here?

rubyred777 profile image
rubyred777 in reply to peege

No I didn't get anything. I'm supposed to take 2 times daily.

I don't listen either. Less is always better. I'm very sensitive to pills. Usually a childs dose works on me!

😊.xx

peege profile image
peege in reply to rubyred777

Same here Ruby but you can't ignore your kidneys. You could end up in ER. Very naughty you. Bloody go to get them and start today. What are you like!

peege profile image
peege in reply to rubyred777

PS. Nitrofurantoin: for treating bladder infections. NOT effective for kidney infections.

If your're adamant about not taking the antiB then perhaps get some high strength garlic capsules to blast though your urinary tract along with the copious fluids (your tonic water)!

I am bad. One time my appendix burst. I was going to work like nothing was wrong! Dr. was mad. Had to drain all the poison out of my stomach! Could have died. I'm to stubborn for my own good!

Should have learned a lesson.
