from Mitral Valve stenosis to At Fib

i was concern with my heart since it was discovered that i had mitral valve stenosis 20 years ago. i have been checked every one or two years and i am stable.

in 2023 i had the first episode of At Fib and i was one night in A & E, another 4 events that year.

in 2024 i had one event of At Fib and my heart was fluttering so badly that i was prescribed Amiodarone and at the end of the treatment i was going to have a Cardio Version. It was not necessary because At Fib stopped 4 days after taking Amiodarone.

This year 2025 i had another episode and i took the Amiodarone left from last year as i was in At Fib for 3 weeks. it stopped in 3 days.

i talk to cardiologist and he told me not to use Amiodarone on my own account. but he doesn't know how it feels to be with those palpitations. is sure the way people has heart attacks.

i made an appointment with a famous specialist in London and his team took an eco and electro with the good results that my mitral valve stenosis is mild. He made a referral to a specialist in Ablation and Cardioversion and i have my appointment tomorrow. is not my valve the problem is At Fib.

Why At Fib? If i think about my life, chronic anxiety was my everyday state. Obviously my heart is in tatters.

mi medications have been the same in the last 3 years: Amlodipine 5 mgs, Atorvastatin 10 mg, twice a day Bisoprolol 2.5 mg and Apixaban 5 mgs

i think i need a review of my prescriptions.

urine sample shows dehydration and i think it is due to the At Fib because during an episode it feels like running a marathon day and night and if it last two or more weeks, obviously my heart will get dehydrated as well as all the other organs. so, i decided to prescribe myself electrolyte.

We all have to die at the end.

Hi Bellisa, you will probably had the cardio version by the time you read this and I hope you are recovering well. I had the same thing last November to correct AFib and it worked well - four months later and my heart beat is regular and strong. I was prescribed Amiodarone prior to the intervention and kept on it afterwards. I had some side effects - the worst being a strong tremor so the cardiologist changed it to Flecaine which is another type of anti arythmic. This seems to be better and apart from getting tired from time to time all is going well. Not sure about taking the electrolyte - probably worth checking it out with the Heart Foundation cardiac nurses - they were very helpful when I rang them. Good luck with it all. ☺️

hi Sunandshade, oh no! i was going to have a Cardioversion at the end of the 3 weeks Amiodarone treatment, but it was not necessary. flutter stop and didn't come back for one year and when it came back was not flutter just At Fib. It lasted 20 days and i took Amiodarone again and it stop after 3 days again.

i found a mitral valve specialist and after Eco and Electro my stenosis is Mild. No valve replacement. I can concentrate in getting rid of the At Fib and i will probably do Ablation.

thank you for writing and your good wishes. Best wishes for you too!
