Af with breathlessness and exhaustion

been in A F. For many years. Without knowing

Had cabg x 4 2007 and stents x 3 2009 always thought heart flutter was tablets and bypass related

However last July developed acute breathlessness, and total exhaustion.

went to docs and they said I’m in AF

March this year cardiologist suggested jump start looking through notes it was evident id been in AF for many years

So he said he would like to load my system with AMIODORONE for 12 months and help the jump start stick

Has anyone else had this and will I return to a reasonable health afterwards. As at the moment it’s hard to walk to a room door without breathing problems and am exhausted doing little jobs

Paul

I would try to get seen by an electrophysiologist (ep) who is cardiologist that specializes in arrythmia's like atrial fibrillation.

I don't think they'd make you wait a year for conversion and might even recommend other strategies such as anti-rhythmic drugs or catheter ablation. Amiodarone is a very strong drug and can be toxic long-term.

If you cannot get a referral right away, going private at least for an initial consultation is another approach. After that, the same doctor might be able to follow up with you under NHS. The cost is a disadvantage for the initial consultation, but the advantage is better expertise and moving to the head of the line, because private consults have a considerably shorter waiting list.

hello Paul

I went into AF following bypass so the cardiologist jump started me again and worked on me for hours (felt great) then straight back in it the same day, apparently works for some not others as you tired, breathlessness etc but making the best of it and loving the weather, stay safe.Peter

That’s the bit I like the “ felt great “ bit. Makes what ever comes. Worth the wait

Cardiologist said jump start now. Prob last a few hours or week or two and may even work. But chances are slim as it’s been in AF FOR OVER 15 YEARS so giving me the medication amiodorone Will help lay the ground and once I’m loaded up. A jump start has a better chance of taking hold and working

Was just worried I’d not feel a change if it does work

But your two words have helped a lot thankyou
