Thickened heart muscle

Hi ☺️ currently going through perimenopause had palpitations fast heart rate and chest pain which came on suddenly After visiting my GP she found a heart murmur which after an echocardiogram showed a mild thickness of my heart muscle

My cardiologist sent me for a mri and ct scan which showed no other concerns and he thinks it's down to high blood pressure

I had another echocardiogram in January now awaiting an appointment with cardiologist for results and diagnosis he doesn't think my chest pain is heart related and maybe stomach or costochondritis

I currently take ramipril but every other added medication I get bad side effects so my anxiety is obviously high

It's been 18 months and I'm just waiting for something bad to happen

Anyone with similar experiences

if you are anxious about your health or your medication, one starting point might be for you to read up on this from a trusted source (don’t just google things, you can be led down rabbit holes!). The charity Blood Pressure UK could be the one for you.

You might then feel that YOU are in charge of your health. For instance, does your diet need tweaking? Could more exercise such as walking be helpful?

And then there’s breathing exercises to calm you down. One simple one to start with is, with eyes closed, breathe in gently for a count of four, hold for four, out for four. Just for one minute. Then tomorrow increase for two minutes.

I had chest pains and my GP detected a new heart murmer. I had echo which revealed thickened heart muscle and so had heart MRI. This showed everything was normal and my cardiologist said the murmer was nothing to be concerned about. My large vessels are clear and I have been diagnosed with microvascular angina.

Thickening of the heart muscle can be a sign of a serious problem, which is why you had the MRI but this showed you don't have this condition.

All this took over a year to be investigated and I also had a repeat CT angiogram in January and have yet to get the result. Time to phone the secretary and chase this up! However, I have found that the longer it takes to hear the result, the less serious it is.

Thank you so much for replying it's such a worrying time I have rang been told usual back log and could wait up to 12 weeks (it's been 7 now) he didn't mention angina of any kind at my appointment i couldn't work whilst investigations were in place but said its fine now If I feel ok my chest pain is daily but he doesn't think it's cardiac I'm booked in for an endoscopy soon so hopefully will have more answers 🙏

I also had the same symptoms and by ECG results they want to check whether it’s thickened heart muscle so did CT scan and luckily all fine. But I still have the same symptoms and they said it could be because of my Health anxiety ( I am not ) or because on my blood pressure medication ( Telmasartan) and prescribed medicines for anxiety . Still couldn’t diagnose the reasons for the symptoms and why my ECG showed like that .
