Hello. Started getting palpitations in March 2021 they went on for about a week 1 every hour or every couple hours roughly. Went to the gp who listened to my heart etc said i was fine and they stopped not all together but alot less frequent. I then got them again december 2021 had a ecg done which was normal they said if they happen again I would get a referral to cardiology. Which must of eased my mind because I didn't get them to any concerning extent again until June 2024 when I was getting them every hour or so maybe a couple an hour constant for a month. I had just got a promotion at work under a lot of stress which I think might of been the cause. I got referred to cardiology for a 24 hour monitor which they found 3 supraventricular ectopics and 1 ventricular ectopic all sinus rythm very reassuring reading they said no further action. But I still seem to get them some days worse than others some times everyday some days none at all. I don't know how many is normal or not normal I've never counted but at a guess the worst I get is maybe 15 to 20 a day that might be too many aswell at its very worst. All bloods are OK they've been done countless times no other symptoms with them they are just scary. I also find masturbating (embarrassing) triggers them which I don't know why but sex dosent any reason for this? I do think alot of it was due to a bad year stress wise. Any advice or help to put me at ease a little bit. I spoke to a gp not long ago jan 2025 who told me I need to stop reassuring myself and take some control not helpful. Anyone help please advice
Ectopic beats: Hello. Started getting... - British Heart Fou...
Ectopic beats

hi Spenner
I’m 64. Now I know the signs I’ve had ectopic beats all my life. Just getting up in the night when getting back to bed ectopic beats for a few minutes. Anything can set mine off even sitting watching tv. Yes even after self enjoyment. My heart would also flutter on and off, as I never known any different I took it as normal. It’s not uncommon as most people experience these symptoms and lead a perfectly normal life. I have friends with same. In their 70s. My consultants have all said it’s fine to leave it.
Only if symptoms change/get worse you may need medical intervention.
I had a fit bit in July 23 just to seen how many steps I do a day as getting old 🤣
December 23 2 Alerts came up signs of AFib. It potentially saved my life. A finger pulse oxymeter can show a lot more. Cheap and good for peace of mind Amazon about £12. My symtoms had changed a lot since and medical help is out there. My heart ended up with no rhythm and no amount of different medication has worked. So surgery has been the only option. All keyhole so far. But not lasted as they would have liked. More to come. I’m now considered a complex case after 4 prceedures. More to come. Am I worried, no as there is no alternative. Waiting for things to heal before next procedure is hardest.
Your half my age more healthy living does help. Limiting caffeine, alcohol. Not doing drugs, try to cut out processed food, drink , artificial additives. Sweeteners exorcising. Can all affect us.
Being aware is often good. You can get used to it. I was first diagnose in 2007 and been fine till 14 months ago.
All the best
There was a time 2 yrs ago when I was getting a severe "ka-thump" palpitation every 5 seconds - that's both what I could feel and what showed up on a week long Holter. Now that I am on a number of meds, my ectopic beats has dwindled both in force and in number. I am really happy about only getting 4 or 5 "grinding" beats an hour.
