recently diagnosed with mild heart failure, with an ejection fraction of 49%. Anyone know the life expectancy?
non smoker, don’t drink, healthy weight, diet not the best. 57 years old. So life expectancy and any foods/drinks to avoid.
Thank you. 🙏

Back in the 50's heart failure with coronary artery disease had a life expectancy of 5 years. But with ACE inhibitors,ARBs and more modern meds, life expectancy is unlimited barring any worsening of underlying heart muscle damage. I'm certain your medical team will tell you that your 'prognosis would be great.
prognosis is something you need to discuss with your Cardiologist or GP.
I was in acute heart failure in 2015 and despite being hospitalised for pneumonia and acute renal failure, I am still here to tell the tale.
My friend’s husband was electrocuted in 2015, as a result, his heart rhythm changed to atrial fibrillation and he became very unwell. At this time, his ejection fraction was 28%, he too is here to tell the tale.
My point is, that we are all different. The circumstances surrounding our heart failure is important, which is why you need to speak with someone who knows? Your medical history.
I take my medications faithfully, I exercise to keep myself moving but I am overweight.
None of us are perfect and no one expects us to be.
Slow down, listen to your body and rest when you need to. Get a good nights sleep and stop thing about dying. Instead focus on improving your ejection fraction and improving your overall health.
Take care, I know that it is not easy and it can be a very frightening diagnosis.
try to stay positive. My husband was diagnosed with DCM last year and had an EF of 37.% which placed him in the moderately impaired bracket. With the correct medication, cutting out caffeine and most alcohol, it rose to 48% within a few months.
He has just had another set of scans which show EF of 57% and has no symptoms. The medications now can be so effective and I wish you all the best.
My EF was 13% in November 2023, I'm on the four pillars of heart failure medication and my EF has risen to 38% 👍
I'm not dying for ages, way too stubborn.
an EF of 49% is just below the normal range of 50-65% (100% is not possible) - so unless it deteriorates considerably, medication is likely to be able to treat this for many years
heart failure is a scary term for the dfact that your heart is not pumping quite as well as it should - it is not a death sentence - so unless you have already booked a date and venue for your funeral you need not panic
