I always suggest to people they should first ask their doctor or a specialist nurse (cardiac diabetes, etc.) about wearing them. After never considering them for flights within Europe I asked when I was going to visit Australia and was advised against them as I was a long term diabetic - I just had a walk regularly (my fellow passengers probably thought I had a weak bladder 🤣) and kept well hydrated. When I had my bypass I never wore surgical socks as we (surgeon and myself) felt that the risks outweighed the potential benefits. I have met a diabetic who wore surgical socks and woke up to find he had lost a leg. Like taking supplements always check things out with a professional first (and not a general purpose nurse).

Boots sell a good range of flight socks, not the cheapest but good quality and wash well.

Wishing you safe travels!

I use flight socks to combat mild oedema and bought one pair from Ebay and 2 pairs from my local pharmacy. I think the ones fron the pharmacy were Scholl but can't be sure, but certainly much better quality than the pair bought online.

I agree with MichaelJH , flight socks alone do not prevent DVT, it is important to keep hydrated and do regular exercises which keep the circulation flowing in the legs, this includes walking and/or leg stretches and toe crunches, with good deep breathing for chest expansion - eg stoptheclot.org/in-flight-f...
