Wasn’t put on a statin as cholesterol was good. Month after it went up so I was put on Artrovsatin 80mg 2 more blood test my ALT is rising it’s 69 I keep asking is it the statin by GP didn’t agree now sending me for liver scans. I’m so worried please can you help. I can only get telephone gp appointments and I don’t understand what they are talking about. Thank you

I’ve just replied to your earlier post.

Now you’ve said “liver” I understand that one of your liver functions is raised above normal. So the doctor is, correctly, having some more tests done. When the results are in you can move forward.

Ideally you should be working with a cardiologist at this point and not a GP. Of course, statins should not be taken if they're contradicted by your liver function tests, but if you get the green light, they are the cornerstone of CAD treatment which is to get LDL down below 55. If that cannot be done by lifestyle or statins, you are probably a good candidate for PCSK9 inhibitors like Repatha.

A lot of meds are metabolised in the liver. I had similar issues a few years ago and was referred to a hepatologist. Eventually signed off with “no liver issues” because things stabilised. My bloods are still tested annually to ensure there are no issues emerging. You just have to go through the process. If the Atorvastatin doesn’t suit you, there are alternatives.

hi I’ve been on 4 different statins none agree with me. Tremors in legs can’t bear to touch legs below knees at nights. However you could get your prescription changed to different ones quite easily. Initially I’d ask if you could drop to 20 mgs.

If you’re only getting telephone consultations you should ask if you can have a face to face as you don’t understand what’s being said.

During your telephone consultations stop them and ask questions like you would face to face.

If you have hearing difficulties over the telephone let them know it’s not working because of that.

Be assertive it’s your health being discussed and it’s their job to help you understand all about it.

I was prescribed 80mg. I didn't want to take 80mg. I've been taking 40mg since Nov'2021
