Hi - I have been taking patoprazole since having a stent fitted in January. This is to manage the side effects from the heart meds in terms of acid reflux / gastritis. it is suggested I increase the dose from 20mg to 40g but was wondering if best to take in one dose first thing in the morning or twice daily early morning and late night? Anyone have experience of this.

My own experience of taking a PPI for reflux disease for over 15 years is I take it in the morning preferably with a 30 minute break before I eat breakfast. However that's me, so what have you been told to do by your GP or pharmacist? If you are not sure you should check with them. Or perhaps read what it says on the patient instruction sheet which comes with your meds.

I take 80mg of Nexium a day. 40mg when I wake up and the other 30 minutes before dinner. Seems to be working for me, it is also a PPI can't imagine it will be with different.

I'm on 80mg of Pantoprazole. Was told to take 40mg first thing in the morning, one hour before any food. And the other 40mg in the evening, one hour before any food.

Hi I’m on Pantoprazole 40mg but only take in the morning. Was taking at night but recently changed to morning as still had problems with acid reflux. I have no option to take 1 in morning and 1 at night. I was prescribed Pantoprazole with heart meds two years ago.

Have you tried asking your pharmacist?

funnily enough my husband - on this med for some years now - was suffering from extra tummy troubles while we were on hol in South Africa three weeks ago. Pharmacist there suggested he take the normal tablet at his normal time, one hour or so before the first food of the day, then another dose (thus doubling the dose) about one hour before the evening meal. This worked well and my husband has gone back to normal morning dose as prescribed.
