Dear Heyjude31

I was put on Pantoprazole first for protection of the gut/ stomach lining due to aspirin or more precise the aspirins effects.

After about a month my Dr moved me onto omiprazole with no explanation, but when I ask the nurse she said it was probably down to price !

I had no effects from either drug and I presume they do the same job, can your GP not move you onto another “ prazole “ as most of these drugs seem to end with.

Hope you get sorted soon

Hi Blue1958. Thanks ever so much for your reply. I am going to speak with the doctor tomorrow to see if there’s an alternative. Thanks again, Judi

My cardiology doctor started me on pantoprazole in September last year, having tried most of the other PPIs (e.g. omeprazole, lanzoprazole, nexium). For me pantoprazole delivers the least unpleasant side effects so far, but I too do experience some nausea and stomach upsets, and also it causes an itchy rash on my neck, shoulders and arms! However, I find it very effective in clearing up bouts of acid reflux, extreme heartburn etc., so, with my doctor's approval, I only take it as and when necessary.

Hello Dralex, thanks ever so much for your reply that’s really helpful. If you are able to take the tablet when necessary as opposed to every day that’s sounds like a much more common sense approach. This is the second time I have really struggled with nausea and sickness. I am speaking to the doctor tomorrow and will mention what you have said. I had 3 of my meds changed which had helped but will need to look for a different options for the other two. Thank you again that’s really helpful. Judi

Hi Heyjude31 I was originally on omeprazole but that interacts with clopidogrel! was changed to a variety of antacids and finally Pantoprozole it did originally give me upset stomach but that settled after a few weeks! I also take Famotidine, this is because of the effects of clopidogrel on my stomach. Get your GP to try something else good luck take care.

Hi Platypus6, thanks ever so much for your reply. It is the sickness and nausea that I struggle with it’s just so debilitating and I don’t eat which is not helpful. I am speaking with the GP to see what can be changed. Thanks again, take care Judi
