Morning, from my sunny confines in a cardiac hospital bed in a large hospital in south London.
It’s not sunny, bit grey and drab, but that’s not to say that the day is likely to perk up as I’m - hopefully - getting released at some point today.
Day six this one, day one was arrhythmia topping out at 174 to add to my atrial flutter/ fibrillation I’d been carrying for six weeks.
Whisked off to said large hospital by ever vigilante and professional ambo crew.
Prognosis was as the mag and digoxin weren’t touching the arrhythmia, it was decided that they’d concentrate on trying to get my hyperthyroidism under control with steroids, but that wasn’t going to work in the short window they had to deal with.
My LvEF is <> 15/20% and heavily damaged, so it wouldn’t put up with the much raised heart rate of a constant 125bpm.
So, yesterday, the bullet was bitten and I was cardioverted.
It seems to have done the job as I’m now averaging 75bpm and feeling a lot better for it.
I’m in sinus and the ecg is nice and regular.
Am I out of the woods? Nope. Being shocked to rhythm isn’t a long-term solution and I’ll either have to have it done again or have an ICD fitted.
Anyway, currently that’s my story and I wanted to share it with the people I turn to for reassurance and information and to thank everyone involved in my care which has been exemplary.
Thank you, stay well fellow hearties.
Ian
