Hello I’m new here…I’m 68 on Bisoprolol and cholesterol tabs.

I’ve put on weight, my hair is falling out, I’m exhausted most of time, go boiling hot so my head and face is running… ( lovely) , get the A Fib attacks daily so find myself cancelling stuff or not going out just in case.

Anyone the same??

That sounds awful for you. Have you had your thyroid and other things checked?

Good morning early bird. I am very sorry to read your post, it sounds an awful combination of side effects. Why not have a chat with your doctor? . While I was taking Bisoprolol I too experienced Atrial Fibrillation, likewise my sister who lives in Italy. In her case was so bad she was taken to A&E and had her heart stopped and started again. I asked my doctor to take me off the Bisoprolol and symptoms disappeared. We all react differently to medication.... I don't know what Bisoprolol was prescribed to you for, but I feel our quality of life should not be put on the line to avoid running a potential risk to our health.

I have since consulted an Ayurveda doctor who prescribed herbal remedies to slow the heart down which do not give me side effects.

With best wishes

Sde

Hair loss and weight gain could be the thyroid, but it would be wise to see your GP and arrange to have some blood tests. Hair loss is a very unfortunate consequence of being post menopausal too.

If you are having frequent AF episodes and certainly if they’re happening daily, you might need to look into having an anti arrhythmia medication like Flecanide. I don’t think what you describe are typically side effects of bisoprolol. If you have fast AF then it’s wise to continue with the bisoprolol to keep the HR close to normal range. You don’t mention anticoagulants but at 68 and with daily AF it might be a good idea.

Personally I would NEVER take any herbal remedy with a pre existing heart arrhythmia. I don’t care about “tradition” narratives. I will only buy culinary herbs and spices to use in my cooking from the established brands (or supermarket own brands) because food fraud is rife with these products. I’d never buy cheapo bargains from Amazon because I don’t trust them. I’ll only buy herbal teas from the supermarkets, H&B or health food shop for the same reason. If you are taking medication it’s important not to add in herbal remedies (which may be considered as unregulated pharmaceuticals) without getting the OK from your doctor or consultant.

Not what you're looking for?
