I had quadruple by pass and defibrillator implant in January. I still get a lot of pain and discomfort from my sternam. Is it normal to last so long.

Sternam pain
I had the same bypass and my sternum was painful for at least a year or longer with some simple things causing more pain than other actions. For example bending down to tie a shoelace or stretching.
had my op 31st Jan and I would say it’s ok when I’m on the move or in bed but definitely still discomfort in bed or when stretching during housework or exercise . Still quite a red scar.
3xCABG December 23. Not actual pain but my ribs and shoulders still ache. My GP sent me to a physio as it’s definitely muscle related. She told me my posture was “horrible”. She gave me some stretches and exercises which have helped tremendously. Although at times I still slouch and sit awkwardly I am aware and make adjustments
I’m at 16 months and my chest muscles have only just stopped niggling after my OHS. It was an ache caused by posture, moving slightly would stop it immediately.
The chest exercises recommended during rehab help tremendously, I have some small weights at home for these and still do them. Tricep extensions are the one that seems to help me most.
I had OHS in late January, only now has my sternum healed and the two sides have stopped sliding against each other!
