I would not take it, but that is just a personal fad. I hate taking as much as a simple pain killer. It does seem to have many positive effects.
Every drug has side effects. I took Champix to stop smoking 15 years ago but you needed will power and really wanting to quit smoking.
Wegovy doesn't reduce the risks of heart and strokes it just works in reducing your appetite and hence you lose weight but needs to be done in conjuction with diet and excercise. By losing weight you then improve your overall metabolic health and then reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke but the damage maybe have done earlier if you have been overweight for a long time.
Maybe try healthy eating combined with excercise to see if you can lose weight without the need for drugs.
I took metformin in 2021 which one of its side effects was losing weight. It also helps suppress hunger and it helped me combined with diet and excercise to lose 6 stone.
My H1bac went from 98 down to 33. But I had blocked arteries and needed a double bypass.
This is true, it's not for me personally I just found the article interesting and and wondered what other people's thoughts were.
We are what we eat. Watching your diet and exercising will reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke 😉
We are what we eat….that makes me big vegetarian tart! lol.
I take a similar drug orally for diabetes, yes it suppresses appetite but when you do eat it has to be tiniest portions or you feel very nauseous and has to follow reducing diet rules. Due to RA and OA exercise is minimal and weight loss is slow. I take my med for primarily diabetes, I wouldn’t if I didn’t need to so no to wygovy for just weight loss. Take care 🦊x
5 people I know recently have been prescribed Statins as they ' could' be at risk of heart attack and stroke. That has been my answer to them as the next thing they will be offers.is Wygovy. I have a really slow heart rate, I am out gardening daily on a sloped garden so constantly up and down stairs, watch what I eat and can't lose an ounce. Since I haven't seen my GP in 4 years I won't be getting offered it 😉
Personally I would avoid it because
a) it has some potentially very unpleasant side effects and
b) under NICE guidelines it can only be prescribed for two years and you will then regain the weight unless you change your lifestyle.
As Hidden has said it is all about educating your eating habits. I know someone who had a BMI of ~35 and was prediabetic. They had tried WeighWatchers, SlimmingWorld, various shakes and even weight loss pills. The latter caused unpleasant side effects (permanently upset stomach) and did not last a fortnight with them. Now after two heart attacks they have changed their diet by themselves and, lo and behold, are steadily losing weight
