For more than a week now I have had diarrhoea and am loosing weight that I can’t afford to loose I’m on the gold standard drugs and wondered if they are the cause of it it but then that probably would have happened earlier and not after twelve. Weeks I will phone my GP tomorrow

Some people and Doctors would say after 12 weeks you would have been having side effects before then yet once I read a Doctor who did not agree with this theory that explained when you are taking meds imagine a slow drip filling a pan till it overflows
They believed that sometimes they felt this is why side effects can come later than expected as they have not been suiting someone but slowly built up and then overflows where they are getting side effects
I actually agree with this theory as this has happened to me quite a lot but the best thing you can and should do is get a Doctors appointment see what they have to say about your meds or if they want to do further tests as something is causing it so you need to know what it might be as you say you cannot afford to lose any more weight
Hopefully it will be something simple like one of your meds
Hi, I had similar issues a few months after my HA. Turned out to be the lansoprazole causing the problems, somewhat ironically as I was taking it to protect my stomach from the clopidogrel and aspirin. After chatting with my cardiologist and the clinical pharmacist at the GP's I stopped the lansoprazole and switched to famotidine. No more spending hours in "quite contemplation".
me too - re Google to the loo all the time and based on what others said here decided it could be the lansopazole and had that changed to pantoprozale. Problems stopped about a week later and been in the latter for about 3months now.
The hospital pharmacist when I had my HA was excellent and said don’t put up with side effects, come back as we have different options. Although I did wait nearly 3 months before requesting change.
Good luck
I had the same after my HA and stents. I was told that when you have a HA the blood flow to certain organs like liver, kidneys are starved and this can cause diarrhoea also your meds. I also lost weight. I had liver and kidney tests done, which were clear. After what seemed a life time, adjustment of meds I got there. I was taking Omaprazole changed to Lansoprazole and hey ho no more sit ins on the loo. You need to talk with your health care provider. ❤
Hi, when I had my angioplasty (after heart attack) some 10 yrs ago, I used to link every single anomaly to be something related to heart (from minor aches to sleeplessness). From my experience, I can only say “Don’t panick and don’t worry. Monitor the condition for a few days before panicking”
Have you had your liver function test yet? Speak to your GP. I lost 2 s tone after my heart at tack without trying but that was simply the change of diet. Alternatively lansoprazole could be he culprit or you may just have caught a bug. It's not always heart or meds related but it is easy to think everything is because of that.
Hi, it could be one of your meds. Many of them list diarrhoea as a side effect, though of course we're all different so some people get it, most don't. I recently had my BP meds upped. The double dose of Amlodipine really affected my sleep, so I was switched to Ramipril. I had diarrhoea from day 1, every day for a week. So they switched me to Losartan. This seems to be fine 🤞. It's worth checking your patient info leaflets in the drug packets to see which ones can cause diarrhoea and have a chat with your pharmacist. They know much more than GPs about these things!
Hi, I have inflammatory bowel disease as well as heart failure and cardiac disease but I really struggled with statins when I first started all my heart meds. The statin sent me into a flare so had horrendous diahorrea for around a week. I eventually waited until my tummy settled and restarted the statins at a later date and thankfully I seem to be able to tolerate them. Unfortunately a lot of medications can cause diahorrea but I obviously have to be super careful due to inflammatory bowel disease. When I was bad I had to stop all my meds until I could start eating again and started with only light foods. I was basically just making sure I kept fluids onboard. I would consult with your GP and get some advice and as others have said it may well be the lansoprazole. Hope this helps
