Hi all, I've recently been diagnosed with severe LVSD, mild TR and global severe impairment. I understand the first two, but what is the third?? Thanks!

Global severe impairment
I hope you get some good replies from other members struggling to make sense of such phrases!
But you could also call the Heart Helpline team on 0300 330 3311 Mon-Fri 9-5pm or email hearthelpline@bhf.org.uk
They are very knowledgable and helpful.
Please be sure to follow up as soon as you can with your cardiologist about this. As a general term, global indicates the whole of the heart and severe impairment suggests that your heart is functioning very poorly - i.e. it is likely to have been damaged by its efforts to overcome the left ventricular systolic dysfunction (the main ventricle pumping the blood around your body is functioning very weakly, and not ejecting blood sufficiently, leading to back pressure in the lungs and other side of the heart). Alternatively, the entire heart may have been damaged by something like a myocarditis or cardiomyopathy of some sort. I don't know your history, so can't be sure of cause and effect. In any case, at your age, this is very worrying and your cardiologist should be spending a lot of time talking to you about this, management and future implications. Very best wishes
