ICD & reducing bisoprolol

My husband had an ICD fitted in 2019 following cardiac arrest. He has AF and inherited hypertrophic cardiomyopathy from his mother.

3 years ago his ICD fired twice at home then 13 times in A &E while they tried to stop it.

His medication was adjusted bisoprolol increased to 10 mgs, he recently has 24 hour holter, heart rate was 47-79 also very breathless at times. His consultant has suggested reducing bisoprolol to 5mgs however there’s a small risk of inappropriate shock from ICD. The choice is his to make which is difficult as he was extremely traumatised following the event. Any advice would be appreciated

Hi Canaries 22, I’m on bisoprolol 2.5mg because I had aortic valve disease and benign arrhythmias.Ive had a valve replacement a year ago and I’ve been feeling really well.I don’t get any dizziness or breathlessness or palpitations. My heart rate stays around 63 when resting which is amazing because it used to go down to 30 with or without the bisoprolol.I feel safe with it but I don’t know how I would be if I stopped taking it.Im sorry I’m not much help,Is there a cardiologist who would be happy to talk to you and your husband about it.It might be other things that are causing the bradycardia.

Hi

Thanks for reply. They seemed to have ruled out any other reason. His cardiologist has been excellent. We have a GP consultation on 6th September, we go on holiday on 7th September and won’t make changes before we go. I’ll probably contact consultants secretary to arrange a telephone consultation when we return. He’s constantly cold and tired on bisoprolol so reducing may help some symptoms in the long term. He has also stopped atorvastatin for one month to see if any symptoms are related to this.

Thank you again for your reply 🤞he can reduce bisoprolol without any effects
