Last week I was out feeding and checking on the sheep and I heard a two tone alarm, thought it was my phone..... No wasn t it only went on for 10 seconds or so turns out it was my ICD, I immediately went into panic mode thinking wtf has happened I feel fine,I jumped on the quad, perhaps not the smartest thing to do if you think you might be having another cardiac arrest but hey ho who said I was bright, got home and did a download from the ICD and sent it off phoned cardio in the main hospital who asked me to do a download and they would call back. It would appear there was a software update during the night and because I only have one wire from my ICD the update is looking for two wires it polls and I get this alarm warning me a wire has disconnected. I can get it turned off nect time I visit the hospital so at present I alarm every morning at 08.06, has anyone else had this excitement?
Depending on which ICD you have there are different alarms for different reasons. When you're next at the pacing clinic ask them to let you listen to the different alarms and explain what they mean.
My husband was in the local hospital (no pacing clinic there) when he had VT's and because his ICD wasn't able to communicate with his home monitor his alarm went off every morning at the same time until the pacing clinic were able to visit him to turn it off.
His ICD has also bleeped when he's been too close to a magnetic surface or going through security barriers etc but because these weren't medical issues his ICD resets itself once he's moved away.
Interesting though that your ICD bleeped because of the download and only having one lead. My husband has had an ICD since 2012 & he has only one lead, his alarm has never gone off due to a download, so maybe different makes do different things.
Superb to know, so I have even more exciting times ahead, I was just concerned since no one told me it even made a noise. Thanks for the info it's much appreciated
How wonderful you are still shepherding with a heart condition. My other half (still fit as a flea)) was a shepherd for many years and it is very hard work! But he loved it.
To be honest it's only a couple of hundred sheep mostly rare breeds and I can't claim to do a lot the dogs do almost everything........ apart from the feeding.
