I recently 'passed out' and was taken to A&E before being admitted to a cardiac ward. I was diagnosed with syncope and Bradicardia (spellings?). I have now been given a pacemaker and I am in the second week of living with it. I wonder what experiences members have of pacemakers. Thank you.

Pacemaker
mine keeps me ticking away nicely. I too had an emergency pacemaker fitted last year and was the best thing I ever done. Wouldn’t be without it. I had mine for Tachy-Brady Syndrome.
I've had my pacemaker for over 5 years. It was fitted because I was having multiple pauses, as long as 7 seconds. It is doing its job nicely. I don't notice the pacemaker, I carry on with life as normal.
October 2020 I was driving home and passed out. Until that I wasn’t aware that I had anything wrong with my heart. I had a 2 week stay in the cardiology ward hooked up to a monitor. I had an echocardiogram and cardiac mri , I was found to have non compaction and heart block. I had a dual lead pacemaker fitted, prescribed 5 different medications.
I had occasional spells of feeling faint, actually passed out a couple of times, after various investigations was put on the pacemaker waiting list. But my symptoms got much worse over a week or so, I went to A&E and snagged a PM after a couple of days in hospital. That was a couple of months ago, been feeling fine since. In case you don't know there's an active and friendly Facebook group called Pacemaker UK.
hi, just had a biventricular one fitted on Friday. Had heaps of pain in the neck as he was operating and after thank goodness it’s settled down a lot. The surgeon had no idea what it was, how good is that. I actually googled it - per above. Also scar very sore when walking around, need to hold my breast. On mend thank goodness.
I had exactly the same experience as you - syncope and bradycardia followed by emergency pacemaker implantation.
It will be 5 years tomorrow since my pacemaker was fitted, and in that time, I have been able to live a perfectly normal life without feeling tired, lightheaded and breathless as I did before the pacemaker.
Pacemakers don't just save our lives, they improve our quality of life too.
I have had one for close to 10 years and forget I even have one sometimes and have no problem sleeping on that side. Take care
Thank you for your response. After ten years will you need a replacement implant at some point?
I had pm fitted after Flecainide stop controlling my AF. That was two years ago and I am just so happy to have my life back
