Familial Hypercholesteremia

I was diagnosed with high cholesterol and it is suspected that it is FH as both my parents had it too. We have had our children (24 and 27) tested and they are ok currently.

If it was FH would they be showing high levels at this stage ? Thanks

Hi, were they genetically tested? If it was a genetic test, they would know at any age as they would have genetic markers from birth.

I have FH too, and I was told that there was a 50% chance of inheriting it from your parent(s). I have it, my sister doesn't. As it's an inherited condition, I believe high levels of cholesterol show very early - I read about an teenager with undiagnosed FH who died unexpectedly of a heart attack and I think the post-mortem revealed her cholesterol reading was something like 18 or 20 - so I would have thought your children would be showing signs of it by now. Also, as CoffeeLover says, if they were genetically tested, the results will give you the answer; your genetic make-up doesn't change as you get older.
