Had a STEMI 12 days ago, I’ll be 56 next month. Got a Stent inserted and now vegetating. Sorry recovering at home. Max walk I’ve done is 1 mile today. Going to try a couple miles tomorrow.
my question is, when did the golfers get back golfing? Did you buggy for a bit or walk a few holes ect. Cheers

my husband, a keen golfer, relied on his rehab team to guide him. You will certainly need to be walking more than a mile at a time: but you knew that already!
Exercise is an important part of your recovery programme. However no-one on here knows your medical record or personal circumstances other the brief details you have provided. And the vast majority of folks on here are not medically qualified. So you should follow the advice of medical professionals either at the time of your discharge from the hospital where you were treated, or by talking to the BHF Heart Helpline nurse, or by talking to your GP, or by waiting for cardio rehab which you may have qualified for.
Thanks Lowerfield, I am aware the responses on here can’t be about me, which is why I asked how long it took the golfers of the group to get back golfing. Not how long will it take me. Cheers.
I'm 22 months on from a failed triple bypass and 17 months on from 4 stents in 3 arteries. Still can only manage 9 holes of a par 3 course. It sucks. I do have a paralysed diaphragm from the surgery so that's gonna have a huge impact. Hope you get back to golfing soon. I was told to give it a few months after stents before taking a full swing. All the best.
Hello - think it depends on individual situation....I was lucky and able to golf 9 holes the week after , then was straight back into 18....( only bec I felt fine after 9) My surgeon said just do what you feel your body can do. I was very nervous the first time and just went with a good friend who knew where my spray etc was.
Hi Golfer67 thats brilliant, dont think i could walk a golf course yet, or anywhere near that distance. Think I’ll try this weekend in a buggy and see how i go. I’ll get a mate to drive it and i can pop on and off as I need. Cheers for that
73 year old male golfer, had stent in March, back playing golf 3 weeks later using buggy. Now swimming 1000 metres a day in pool. Was also walking 2 miles a day until started swimming.Haven’t walked golf course as too hot in Spain!! Hope this helps.
Hello ADH56L, I have had two open heart operations for an aortic dissection and also to have a “frozen elephant’s trunk fitted “ (apparently it resembles one). I attended a cardiac rehab class to get back on my feet and roughly about a year later decided to give it (golf) a go, personally I can only manage nine holes but play twice a week, I walk round for the nine but I have managed eighteen on a buggy. Spoken to various doctors and consultants about it over the years who all seem to agree to carry on as long as I feel okay. Getting out and having a round of golf (and a pint) I think seems to be beneficial for me both physically and mentally
Hello, I had three stents fitted the end of August last year. I followed the advice of my rehab team regarding getting back to golf. I started gradually getting back into it 4 months after my operation. Just chipping and pitching at first at the driving range. Then half a dozen holes for a few rounds, gradually building it up. I play 2-3 times a week now and apart from feeling more tired than I used to be everything seems ok. My biggest worry to start with was thinking the actual golf swing would put too much exertion on the stents. Talking to my doctor and rehab team reassured me I’d be ok if I started off gradually, which I did. Good luck in your recovery and I hope you’re back playing golf soon. One thing I might add is golf it still sometimes causes the stress levels to rise now and again but that’s always been a part of my game! 😀
It so much depends how you feel i think unless you have specific instructions from your cardiologist. I felt so much better after stenting and played 9 holes 5 days after procedure. and again that week. It didn’t improve my golf though but at least provided another excuse for poor performance. Best of luck with recovery.
