Good evening from Spain Been a while since I posted, thought maybe time to give an update.
Nearly 7 years post quad bypass, some may remember me as an early poster and advocate here from that dark period.
So anyhow, had a check up today, all ok, bad cholesterol a bit high but I have been given new statins with an added extra to help combat this.
Food, lifestyle advice as well but overall the cardiologist here seemed pleased, especially with the amount of walking, (two dogs, plenty of mountains, also a lot of gardening to attend to.)
So the new medicine is ezetimibe, here coupled with rosuvastatin. Doctors in Spain more accustomed to patients asking questions than the UK, that's my opinion anyhow.
You also have a cardiac nurse at your appointment, she sits takes notes and ensures that you fully understand and makes any necessary future appointments.
October 2016 seems a lifetime ago, ups and downs but plenty more ups

Good to hear from you and that you are doing pretty well. Health care in mush of Western Europe seems to have overtaken the UK but the NHS being a political football has not heled. I lost my lower left leg to PAD four years ago this month after angioplasty to the left and a bypass behind the right knee ware cancelled when the head of Vascular changed a few years earlier. However, my uncle's wife in Germany had a leg bypass when she was about 80 and lived for another decade. They were horrified by my (mis)treatment!
must be slightly harder in Spain with dietary advice all that lovely sweet food and cheapo plonko😉😂Does heat have any impact on you..used to live on boat 6 months in Spain…you might even know where from my nom de plume Enjoy life
Dietary advice is pretty much the same as I've received elsewhere. I get moaned at by the wife as well as my GP over drinking wine, I'm not going to stop as I don't see an average of a glass a day is doing me much harm.Heat, well I'm not a great lover of 46 degrees, last year's high, but I'm a lucky man, have air conditioning, solar panels and a pool. I live about 40 minutes inland from Alicante in the mountains, so we get snow and frost as well.
Yes we had our boat in Marina at Alicante loved the city ..big enough and small enough. There are some fantastic locations inland ..my Spanish friends in city used to joke you needed Pestas still in the mountains!
Yes I think a little of what you fancy is beneficial..giving up everything makes you feel like your ill ..take care ..enjoy life. I had friend in Ali who heart problems and he said his treatment was excellent😉
Good heavens! A cardiac nurse at the appointment! A new Party to govern us now, promising to improve the NHS. I wonder where the money is coming from to fund these improvements? My husband and I have had medical treatment in Spain, Cyprus and France. The first two at private clinics using travel insurance, the time in France using the nation French service but paid for by travel insurance. Must comment, the French care was amazing.
