Yes, just be cautious about the seat belt until it's healed. It's a really small nick they make and it soo heals. May bruise depending on thinners etc.

Found this on a previous discussion about I.L.Rs’. I suppose it is all dependent as to why the Loop Recorder was implanted. Definitely worth clarifying with your Cardiologist.

The other issue with having an I.L.R - is the difficulty in obtaining travel insurance thereafter. I wasn’t informed about that either!

Advice re I.L.R and driving

no problem with travel insurance

Some people don't realise it's the fact they have undiagnosed symptoms that's the prob, i.e. not the thing itself but the reason it's in there.

it’s going to depend on your symptoms. You will need to contact the cardiologist and the DVLA.

Agree. I've got one to investigate issues, and it's the issues, not the ILR, that caused the cardiologist to say that I must notify the DVLA, who withdrew my licence to drive. Even though I've had no symptoms for months.

Sadly, it doesn’t work like that. I flew for over 20 years after being diagnosed with very mild exercise-induced asthma. I have never experienced a classic asthmatic attack. My licence was medically-restricted to flying with a qualified co-pilot.

Similarly, my wife was fitted with an ILR for infrequent episodes of TLoC when sitting or asleep. She was told to notify the DVLA. As she doesn’t drive, it didn’t matter. She is now fitted with a pacemaker and she was told she could apply to the DVLA to have any driving restriction removed.

As frustrating as it is, medical restrictions are more for the safety of others not the individual with the medical condition.

I have one fitted and can drive but when it was first fitted I wasn’t allowed as I had passed out nothing to do with the loop but it was put in wrong as it sticks out and would hurt if the seat belt was over. I’ve since had it replaced much flatter under the skin

Hi 1935rockvilla, I had one fitted years ago and had it in for about two years, and had regular checks and download appointments. I had some sedation so had to in hospital for a few hours till that wore off, but no-one said anything to me about not driving or informing the DVLA, but times change. It may be a good idea to check with your EP or the DVLA just for peace of mind. Good luck
