I’ve never thought of magnesium as a relief from this.

I find Lactulose pretty good.

I have been taking Magnesium for a number of years and it doesn't help with constipation. Maybe if it is a problem, up your fibre or take something like lactulose occasionally to get things moving.

I get the same, I take half a teaspoon of Psyllium Husk powder in a glass of water, or try Fybogel for a few days, though they charge like a wounded bull for it, Psyllium Husk is quite cheap online not sure about from a health food shop.

as an alternative to magnesium based treatment or fy feel (gloopy) you could try a regular dose of something like Laxido, gentle, easy to take

hi, there are many types of magnesium available and definitely would help with constipation… Magnesium citrate. If you can get it in a powdered form, you can experiment with the amount to get the desired effect. I have taken magnesium supplements for years. It also helps with relaxation at bedtime. Magnesium is a great supplement. I would suggest googling magnesium before starting to ensure you are able to take it , I believe if you have kidney problem or are prone to kidney stones, you should not take it. I would also recommend a fiber supplement such as Metamucil or restoralax taken daily. I am in Canada , hopefully something similar is available for you . Good luck

Hi Blindheart, l have suffered exact same problem tried taking medication from Dr, if anything made it more troublesome. My Daughter bless her did some research into it all. Then took her new found information to a very knowledgeable lady in Holland and Barrett. I am now on Probio7 l started on a lower dose to get my tummy used to it for 1 month now l am on a higher matinence one for me it has been a god send. Made such a difference with bloating and toilet probs. It takes a week or two to feel a difference but it does work. It is putting friendly bacteria into my gut. Which is where it all starts. Give it a go you never know. I have told my frie nd whose husband had same problems it is working for him. May not work for everyone but worth a try . Good luck suffering from this is awful.

Organic castor oil in a glass bottle, less than a tenner from Amazon. One teaspoonful first thing in the morning sorts it out for me. Works a treat.

If you intend to take any form of supplement along with your medication you should first discuss it with your GP or better a pharmacist in case there are any interactions between the two. Nonetheless I don't suffer from constipation and I take a few heart related meds and a PPI , but what I do ensure is that I drink plenty of fluids, and eat lots of fruit and veg. But on the rare occasion I do get constipated, usually because of a procedure anaesthetic, I take Lactulose which has always sorted me out.

I suffered with constipation for last 6 months out of the blue because never suffered with it before this is despite eating healthy and eating foods with fiber, drinking plenty of water, anyway doc referred me for a scan and revealed i had diverticulitis and prescribed me Laxido which was a relief, gp was hesitant to prescribed me lactulose and other laxatives as he told me it would probably make my constipation worse due to my condition, still need to drink extra water though on any form of laxatives.

Hi yes massive issues following my open heart surgery. I found this formula (link below) Lower Bowel Formula by Dr Christopher great and no side effects, it comes from iherb in the US but is very fast to arrive, takes a week. all ingredients safe for the heart & can be used in an ongoing basis. If not, magnesium citrate is the best magnesium for the gut.
