WPW and Guanfacine

Hi all, i realise this is unlikely but it's worth a shot. Does anyone have WPW also take guanfacine? I was diagnosed ADHD and WPW at the same time a few months back. The WPW means i can't take adhd stimulants. However, i've recently been looking into guanfacine, which is a non stimulant that helps with ADHD. Guanfacine was originally given for blood pressure (it didnt work apparently), but i'm thinking that if i'm on BP medication anyway, i could possibly use guanfacine for the ADHD safely with WPW.

I'm genuinely interested in looking into this.

I doubt whether there’s anyone on the forum with the same medical and family history and a similar age - but your doctor’s group of surgeries probably employs a pharmacist who might know about these things.

I might tend to distrust Dr Google.

But that’s my opinion anyway.

indeed. It's not so much google i got the info from but authoritive adhd charities and organisations. Guanfacine definitely works for adhd, but i'm just concerned about the WPW. I'd have to ask my cardiologist, but getting an appointment just to have a chat is near impossible.

I suggest you talk to your local pharmacist who will be qualified to advise, or arrange an appointment with your GP. In my limited knowledge of ADHD medication (I have a close relative who has it) the correct medication for anyone diagnosed to have it is a bit of a balancing act according to the individual's needs.

Yes my son started on ADHD meds about 3 months ago and he's had to change it once and is still tweaking the dose. His GP knows nothing at all about it and it's prescribed by an independent company that does the prescribing for the NHS. They are impossible to get hold of if he has problems. It's a real balancing act.

I'm still under the care of my cardiologist, so i'll try and get an appointment (somewhow). I know guanfacine works well for adhd, i'm just wondering about the WPW side of it.

Not what you're looking for?
