Dapagliflozin. Anyone else experience extreme fatigue/tiredness right after taking this med each day?

theonethatgotaway1 profile image

I take it midday usually and within an hour I am wiped out. Very tired. Pretty much the case each day. I take this for heart failure. Just wondering if anyone else experiences this?

I suffer from HF and take several drugs, including Dapa. I also suffer from fatigue, but do not know if this is related to my condition or the medication.

Hi,

I also take Dapa at lunch time, to try and improve my heart’s pumping function, following a valve replacement last year. My Dad (who has end stage heart failure), went on it last Nov. He is so fatigued all the time - so it wld be tricky to tell if it contributes specifically to his overall tiredness, albeit I suspect it does.

Dapagliflozin can lower your blood pressure and as I suffer with a chronic, low B.P anyway - I also have to take Fludrocortisone with it, to counteract this. This could explain why I don’t get the same dip post tablet that you do.

Maybe you cld ask your Heart Failure Nurse if this something you cld try or whether you cld take it at night time possibly, when you’re laying down anyway?

I hope you get it sorted.

Hi theonethatgotaway1, I don't take dapagliflozin but take Empagliflozin, not sure what the difference is. I have heart muscle failure. I've had no side effects and feel really well. I do hope you get your meds sorted soon and you feel better. Take care.

Have you tried taking it at bedtime??

It is a mild diuretic I was told, so might possibly be up at night peeing.

Don't think it's a mild diuretic

It removes glucose and makes you wee it out

That's exactly why I was prescribed it by my diabetic nurse ,I take it in morning to stop peeing during the night but I do feel as though it knocks me out as well .....

We take so many tablets half the time we’re not sure which one is causing these symptoms unless it’s added and we feel ill, then we know it’s that one, but even then sometimes it takes a while for our bodies to get used to them. Together we don’t have a clue. Even my cardiologist told me that. But taking them can prolong our lives. Usually they have different types of the same tablet so people can try another make. Mention it to your nurse. Mine is for heart failure.

I had a Heart Transplant 2 yrs ago still have ongoing pain issues (Sturnum neurological nerve, dizziness) and like you said on so many pills have not got a clue which ones it is ,I originally had a pacemaker icd then Ablasion surgery, Bivad surgery followed by my gift of transplant it's been a long battle just have to pinch myself every so often .......

You’re still here that’s the main thing after going through all that. Pain is the worse part, I live with pain because of a fall. Some people think it’s quality not quantity of life. Years ago most of us wouldn’t be here now. Sometimes I wonder if it’s a good or bad thing.

I think it's a case of people who suffer with pain to find what's best for them because I'm afraid I am not getting any answers down the road I thought I would get I also had a nasty fall whilst I was in hospital that hit my confidence for 6 Don't get me wrong I have a wonderful family who are fantastic but it's been 2 years since my trauma I went through and all I get now is "well you look ok" guess it's hard to imagine what being in constant pain is like until you have experienced it ,Sorry Deejay62 sounds like I'm moaning but it is frustrating thanks so much for answering my messages

Yes I know having an invisible illness is awful. You can’t always see that people are in constant pain we tend to put on a brave face but it’s awful.

I hope they find out if it is to do with the HF

I take Dapa at breakfast time...and notice some fatigue later, but as it's just 1 of 4 taken then I can't rule out a combination of them all affecting me. I certainly find a walk within couple of hours is more struggle than later in the day.

I’m on dapa and take it in the morning along with 5 others and it doesn’t seem to make me tired.

Please research and take high dose of Ubiquinone, it is the produced in your liver but reduces from the age of 30, it is necessary for every muscle and cell in your body and 'STATINS' reduce the production of this vital element. White willow bark is a natural aspirin and will thin your blood also,

CO Q10. I have heard a little about this. Is it safe for heart patients to take? Have you any recommendations on which to take?

Some clinicians only recommend it for patients who take statins. I take 200 mgs because I take rosuvastatin 20 mgs. No problems with it in my experience.

Hiya, I take Dapa on a night around 8.30pm but I have noticed since starting it I feel more tired, breathless and also feel quite thirsty with it too. These symptoms have only started 4 days after starting this medication. I actually don’t feel like I go the loo very much compared to what water I am drinking which concerns me. I was feeling tired before this medication but now I get really exhausted some days. I am quite fed up of the side effects caused by all my medications for my heart failure which is really impacting my life but haven’t a choice but to take them. I hope this helps

Hi Sarah. Yes this sounds similar to me with my heart failure. Also don't go to loo as much with all meds that's supposed to do that. Struggling with heart pains/aches too that i don't know if things are going bad. It seems to be beating better and in sync more than it used to but new heart aches and pains really bugging me. Seeing doc next week, hopefully get answers.

I might do what you do and take dapa on the night. Are you also on entresto?

Hiya, sorry for the late reply I have been busy with work. I hope all goes well with your doctor and you get some answers. I don’t take entresto but do take a lot of medications which have been adjusted over months due to side effects and plus I have multiple health conditions to. I now take Dapa but it is under review and being monitored as I don’t think it will be suitable for me. I also take bisoprolol, perendipril, nicorandil and I should be taking atorvaststin but this possibly flared up my inflammatory bowel disease. I will now be waiting until I have completed 3 months of steroids and then possibly try the atorvastatin again. If it doesn’t work I will have to see my GP again as I need the statins and none of them agree with me. Anyway I wish you luck with everything and best wishes
