Hi I got blood results recently and I have hypothyroidism which is been treated with Eltroxin 25mcg and I also have low sodium. Sodium level is 134 which is just one below normal range. I’m not been treated for this and I’m wondering is this something I should be concerned about and get it investigated further

I would ask for it to be double checked. Are you taking any other meds? My mum (who is 90, so somewhat older than you!) had slightly low sodium levels - around 130 - and it made her completely gaga! Honestly thought she had some sort of rapid onset dementia but once her sodium levels were back up she was totally normal again! GPs didn't make the connection because her levels weren't that low. She has no recollection of things that happened in that few weeks and we can laugh about it now but it was a horrible experience! It was put down to a BP tablet (not a diuretic) she'd taken for some time that suddenly seemed to disagree with her, once she was off it her sodium levels came back up naturally.

I was actually on Bisoprolol 2.5mg for ectopic beats but I’m off that now. I’m sure Bisoprolol is used for blood pressure. By blood pressure is fine it was just for the ectopics. I was on the Bisoprolol for about four years. Doctor in A&E took me off them because my heart was behaving erratically. The hypothyroidism diagnosis came from the same blood tests. I’ll probably be getting bloods when I go back for thyroid check up in June so maybe been off the bisoprolol might have sorted the low sodium.
