Oxygen levels.

Morning all,Has anyone experienced a drop in their oxygen levels only for a few seconds each time when they are feeling a bit off?

I have bradycardia, mild lvh and a leaking mitral valve. Doctors are considering a pacemaker but think it mat be my vagal nerve causing me the problems so I'm now having an exercise stress test next month before any decisions are made.

I monitor my episodes with a pulse oxygen meter when I have bouts of bradycardia or tachycardia but lately my spo2 levels will drop to around 82 only for a few seconds then it goes back up to 96 then drops again to mid 80s while my heart rate is fluctuating is this normal?

I'm always tired when I have these episodes but now with my oxygen levels dropping too at the same time I curious as to what it can be.

Regards

Taz.

A few moments of lower oxygen levels are quite common with Bradycardia and Tachycardia conditions , especially if there was a rapid drop or rise in heart rate when the episode occurs. It's often that short dip in oxygen that causes the symptoms of dizziness, palpitations , blurred vision or mild vertigo.

Usually, that short oxygen volume is harmless and we don't note it unless we spot it on a watch or monitor and the oxygen reverts to normal figures very quickly as our circulation adjusts.

If your oxygen volume remains low then it's worth having it checked as soon as you can , especially if you have other symptoms.

Sitting and using deep breathing techniques can help both your heart rate and your oxygen volume and improve your recovery time. If you can do this near an open window for some fresh air it can be better still.

Tachy and Brady events are extremely tiring partly because of how oxygen levels change while they happen.

It's worth making an appointment with your GP for a check up if this is happening often and you feel like your daily symptoms are getting worse or making your quality of life difficult.

I do a breathing exercise in a chair either outside ( when the British weather ever gives me chance to!) or sat near an open window with morning sun for 15-20 minutes each day which seems to help with my Fatigue.

Drinking the recommended amount of water each day , and sipping cool water during a tachy or Brady event can also improve your circulation and breathing , especially if part of your heart rate symptoms are caused by the Vagus Nerve , or autonomic dysfunction , it is part of the Self Care I do daily to help improve my Tachycardia events and Nocturnal Brady's.

Take care , and Pace yourself, Bee

This is really interesting, I been diagnosed with SVT with both Brady too! No one has explained that symptoms are normal. I have real issues with fatigue. ATM I am on no meds as gp is waiting for consultant to re advise. My pulse keeps dropping with beater blockers.

I am on a steep learning curve and it’s scarcely too!

Hi, thanks for the reply and advice with regards to my oxygen levels being low hopefully as it's only for a few seconds it should be ok. Like you I've heard drinking cool water may help during episodes to recover quicker too which in need to do more now. Thanks again
