Hello :-)

I really was trying to think what I asked when I spoke to mine

Are you doing well or having any concerns as if either of those are an issue would be something to ask ?

Stupid maybe but I know I asked how well the operation went was there anything else they found

Would they be doing any scans at a later date or Xrays to see it is all working well

I hope others will come along with some great suggestions which I am sure they will

Let us know how your appointment goes and so glad you are feeling well to :-) x

I should have made it clear in my update that it is my husband who will be undergoing CABG, but you comments are nevertheless most welcome and pertinent. Many thanks.

I recommend just one question……what can I do to help you Doctor.

The current vogue for writing out lists of queries is a nonsense. Unless you have at least three years of medical training you won’t be able to interpret the jargon. And it wastes huge amounts of doctors time that should be better spent treating the millions on waiting lists.

Blimey , I don’t subscribe to that at all, it’s up to the individual to ask what’s relevant to them , their family and circumstances . There’s a whole lot of stuff people go through that impacts their lives as a consequence of the surgery that is particular to them .

What do they expect to happen before, during and after (both at home and in hospital). How long at each stage in an ideal world? Do you need to consider anything in particular to support both physical and emotional recovery? Do the hospital have any support networks? Accommodation locally for you if you need it? Can you go with him on the day of operation? When can you visit? How many visitors? You will probably see a registrar or nurse first and they will be used to answering your questions. Helped us to have an idea of what would happen.

Lots of useful advice thank you. We have been told I can stay for two days at the hospital but on researching I find I will be staying at a hotel "ten minutes walk from the hospital". That might as well be 10 miles with my mobility issues. I don't drive but the hotel provides transport twice a day to the hospital. I am prone to "overthinking" so having some jitters about how I am going to cope. Thank you so much for your continuing support.

I’m also an over thinker do I completely understand. Causes many a sleepless night unnecessarily too. I’m sure everything will be fine but I’d be going into overdrive too x

I would think you would be given a booklet to read with all the help and advice, if you haven’t had that already. I just asked Google and one came up for Southampton hospital. Maybe read through that and write down any questions that aren’t covered. We were given the booklet before but only had a few days to digest it before my husbands op, but I think we were too shell shocked to ask!

Thank you really useful. Have done as you suggested, will have to go through with my husband at some point not looking forward to that as I think he is in denial at the moment.
