I have fully blocked left side arteries, surgeon said forget them as they are solid, he said the right side is doing the job on its own, yet I have been told that it can't be right, can anyone confirm or tell me what is happening?
I have controlled angina, walk miles, only discomfort is very cold weather which brings on reflux, and burping and thats it.
Walking up hills is a chore but I am mastering it slowly, flat walking no problem. I see the surgeon again in a week which will give me a chance to ask him questions, can anyone suggest what questions to ask? it will be much appreciated.
I am my right weight , have a good diet , just had my yearly type 2 diabetes and near perfect results only take 1 metformin as a precaution now.
I have a pacemaker 3 years now, never any problems.

Well I see from your post you have reached a grand 84yrs & still seem remarkably fit so well done you!! I’m by no means giving medical advice on this just basing on a previous read ( my family have arterial disease many of which needed surgical bypasses. However I’ve read that in some cases new arteries can develop to bypass an existing blockage (perhaps this has occurred in your case). I hope you continue to remain in pretty good shape, you obviously know your own limitations - write down a list of questions for your Drs so you don’t forget on the day
'Collateral' blood vessels are the 'bypasses' that can develop around blocked arteries, maybe developing from the right side arteries - worth a read up on...
I guess your cardiologist is saying your blockages are stable (I.e nothing is likely to move and cause problems) and you're clearly doing really well as things are. Your heart must be getting enough oxygenated blood as it is.Blocked arteries are very hard to stent and bypass surgery is a big operation to recover from. Trying either of these two procedures could leave you in a worse state than you currently are. (My bypass surgery failed, I've had 4 stents since but I'm left with blocked diagonal arteries which are too risky to stent...im 57). Like you I get angina on walking up hills in cold weather.
If your cardiologist is happy I would go with the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"!
All the above is my thoughts of course. Maybe ask the cardiologist if his thoughts are the same?
noproblems sinceI'm the opposite, totally blocked right artery with acollaterols feeding below blockage from left artery, been 9 years since discovery but no problem and don't think about it.

the main artery which supplies the heart muscle splits into branches so that the blood supply reaches all parts of it quickly - others have already explained that back up vessels develop when needs, so that process can take time but your right artery supply must have developed to take over where the left was failing due to blockage
It sounds like you're doing well. I'm not a medic but a GP told me that Metformin has a protective effect on the heart so I should continue to take it even if my hba1c improved to normal levels.

I have clicked on the link you provided and read the full story which I found amazing yet at the same time sad that this heart medicine was never taken any further in the medical profession and labeled as toxic. I was wondering if you had anymore information on this and if we can order this or get it from Germany
