New member and diagnosis with A/F

Hullo I am Suedot and I have recently been diagnosed with A/F

The cardiologist has put me on Riveroxaban and later Digoxin

I am worried about starting the Riveroxaban as many pills have terrible side effects on me. Is anyone else taking this drug who can tell me how they find it please?

I’ve been taking Xarelto for 3 years as a result of a pulmonary embolism. No issues at all. A few minor side effects first couple of weeks but nothing after that. I take this with Atenolol for hypertension, plavix, baby aspirin and Lipitor. The last three as a result of heart attack and stent in March 2018. If someone looks cross eyed at me I bruise (3 blood thinners). Also went throug 6 rounds of chemo immunotherapy in 2015 as a result of a leukemia (which caused the blood clot that became the PE). Other than the bruising I’ve had no lasting adverse impact from all the chemicals I’ve had in my system.

Well, that is how it affected me. I hope your experience is good as well. I had to give my self lovanox shots in the tummy twice a day for two weeks as pre-conditioning for Xarelto. I hope you do not have to do that. My situation was because I had a blood clot in my leg that became a PE that could have killed me or caused serious long-term health issues had I not been 4 minutes away from a hospital when it hit me.

No I do not have to do that so hope I go on with the meds as well as you. I do not tolerate any pills well due to gastric problems so hope these sure different. I start everything very dubious of the effect.

Hi Suedot I am also taking digoxin & Xarelto along with bisoprolol 5mg twice daily. I also take lanzoprolol for digestive problems. At first the Xarelto caused low abdo pain along with more frequent & loose stools. The case manager nurse (I'm due to have cardioversion) suggested I take lanzoprolol twice daily instead of once. This seems to have helped in the interim, I have now gone back to lanzoprolol once daily and all seems to have settled now. Maybe it's best to talk to your health professional as what suits one person may not be ideal for another.

Thanks Bennett’s, I am now on the Xarelto and they are fine but have this week increased the digoxin to the 125mg and I am dizzy with a head ache and some nausea. I am hoping this will go off in the next week or so if I persevere.

I can not take things like the proton pump drugs for my stomach which is very annoying.

Good to be in touch. Susan

Hi I have been taking Xarelto for seven months and can honestly say no side effects at all. I take with Sotalol for A/F and seems to work well. Good luck

Thanks Deb. I have now settled on Xarelto but having been fine on digoxin at a low dose I am now getting side effects having to increase it to the 125mg. I am hoping these settle down in the next few days.
