Surgeon said my blocked ventricle could have been blocked for years and my other ventricle is doing the job on its own, is anyone else in my position?

Not exactly the same as you but right ventricle enlarged and doesn't do much plus non functioning tricuspid valve. My left vent' does work of both and docs. do not seem worried over the long time non functioning tricuspid valve.I am not a medic but I think blocked arteries may cause people more trouble .

It's good to hear some one else has knowledge of this, do you know of someone with the same as me? the funny thing is I have angina and its controlled and I take long walks weather permitting daily with no problems , if you know of anyone please pass on a contact so I can learn more, once again thanks xx

Can you elaborate on that ? I would love to communicate with someone in the same position as me so I can learn and ask a few questions , I understand if this is not possible , I appreciate the time you took out for me .

This is just from reading things here, and my general knowledge of people over the years - I’m no medic!

However, I did understand from your post that you meant a blocked artery to your ventricle, not a blockage of the ventricle itself.

I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying. How does your body receive oxygenated blood if it’s not travelling through the left ventricle? Do you possibly mean you have a left bundle branch block? This is where the signal travels via the right ventricle only and is blocked going to the left. The left still beats though after the signal travels to it from the right ventricle. It means your heat beat is boom-boom-boom instead of boom-boom.

thank you for that, I see the surgeon end of this month I will ask him about your comments as I do not understand it myself, I was told that it was fully blocked and he was going to clean the working ventricle maybe put a stent in to make the working one stronger, I have angina.

Then I’m guessing he is referring to the left anterior ascending artery, also known as the LAD, is blocked. It causes reduced blood flow to the left ventricle. At a guess, the surgeon will be a vascular surgeon and they’d be looking to unblock the artery and place a stent in it to keep it clear so the blood will flow freely into the left ventricle. Just for your info - the heart has 4 chambers: the left and right atria and the left and right ventricles. There are 4 main arteries of the heart as well. You moght have an issue with one, as per my above comments. I hope that helps clarify for you.

Hi blackseve, I have severe left ventricle imparement and LBBB with an EF of 25%. I am on various meds which keep my heart stable. I didn't realise that EF can be improved upon till I joined this forum so I keep active and try to eat healthy. I feel well, but i still get breathless and tired sometimes. Keep well and take care.

thank you so much for the reply I don't understand the abbreviations and I am self medicating with half of a pill per day.

EF is ejection fraction which is the percentage your heart is performing. LBBB is left bundle branch block, I'm not sure what that is, I just know it's not good. Hope that helps.

as Ennasti suggests, a blocked left ventricle would stop blood from being pumped out to your brain and body, so maybe what you have is a block on the conductivity of your left ventricle like a left heart block or left bundle branch block - this would contribute to your angina

it might help you to look at some of the info on the BHFsite about how your heart works, this would help you understand what the doctors are telling you better

as you are seeing a surgeon soon, may I make a couple of suggestions?

Take someone with you who might be able to support you, if you can. A friend or relative, but if that’s not possible contact Age Concern or another charity who might be able to “lend “ you a volunteer.

Write down all the questions you have, and ask the person with you to tick off the things that have been answered, and write down a very brief note of the answers.

Make sure when you leave that you know the next steps that will be taken.
