First day back at work

BaronFrankenstein profile image

Well ive made it into work. Been off 7 months, first 3 with sciatica and 4 after my heart attack.

Im only doing 4 days and 4 hours per shift to start with. Its been a massive shock just getting up at my normal time of 5:45am.

I have been awake fretting since 2:40am so im already feeling tired. At least i can have a sleep this afternoon when i get home.

Slow and steady wins the race, listen to your body and if you need adjustments to your work please ask, your employer has a duty of care. Also a good idea to check your BP regularly, mine had a pattern on work days x

Takes at least month to get back into the routine of the routines of a work day and a bit longer to get back into that work mentality.

good luck with it all

Hello :-)

This is good news that you are ready to slowly have a phased return to work you have come a long way :-)

It is inevitable you are going to feel exhausted to start with but slowly your body will get used to it and adjust to getting up

Have a well deserved rest now and let us know how you get on as you adjust to it :-) x

Gotcha on that.

I was off for 8 months & 3 weeks and then after being on alternative duties (I’m a train driver but had to go on the gateline) for three weeks, I was made to take my outstanding annual leave - 7 weeks!

Getting back into the getting up for work swing was extremely hard.

Ive been back 2 days and my sleep has been rubbish. Wole up at 2:40 one night and couldn't get back to sleep. Then last night had to get up 3 times to fo to the toilet because not sleeping properly the previous night had upset my stomach. I think if i coukd have had 6 months off i would have done although it would probably have been even harder coming back.

Ive found myself looking at my colleagues, how overweight most are grey faces and tired looking and thinking do i want to be like that again.

Im looking for an alternative role as i just dont want to go back to feeling burnt out and unhealthy again.
