Hello,I see from your previous posts that you have had several admissions to hospital recently with suspected unstable angina or possible vasospastic angina.
Vasospastic angina is uncommon and is often overlooked by Cardiologists.
It's difficult to diagnose with certainty without a specialised angiogram.
My vasospastic angina was confirmed by an angiogram with acetylcholine. Normal functioning coronary blood vessels should dilate in response to acetylcholine , mine didn't they went into transient constrictions, coronary vasospasms.
I was initially prescribed Diltiazem and had isosorbide mononitrate added, along with nitrate patches.
You can get a headache when you first start taking Isosorbide mononitrate. It may make you feel sick and light headed at first too.
I found drinking lots of water and taking paracetamol helped relieve these symptoms for me.
I suggest you ask to be seen by a Cardiologist who has some understanding of microvascular and vasospastic angina and ask for further testing and a review of your medication.
The unprofessional behaviour of some of the medical staff you encountered sadly reflects the lack of knowledge healthcare professionals have of microvascular and vasospastic angina.
My Cardiologist recently added this paper about how to manage Vasospastic angina to my careplan and electronic patient records. It maybe something you could disscuss with your GP or Cardiologist?
Please don't let your bad experiences put you off seeking help when you need it. As myself and perhaps others on this forum have endured similar symptoms and can relate to the challenges you have faced trying to get help for your condition.
Hi, I have been told that I have MVA (10 years). A week ago I ended up in A & E with ongoing chest pain. The ED doctor that saw me, obviously knew nothing about this type of problem. So I gave him a bit of a lecture on the subject. He wanted to know how I knew so much about it. So I told him about the web sites where he can get information from. "Oh right" he said and then went quiet. But I noticed on my discharge notes "anxiety" is mentioned. I am pretty furious about it. I will be dealing with it at my first opportunity!! As for Monomil XL, I also take it. I started off on 30mg until headaches subsided then increased it to 60mg. I did suffer for a while with headaches but eventually they went.
I have just been Put back on 30mg of isosorbide after ending up in A&E on good Friday after chest pain that g.n.t. Spray didn't help. So far ok with it no headaches and no further chest pain
Have 1 stent in LAD and had been relatively angina free since. But had total knee replacement just over 3_weeks ago and was concerned about blood clots. Actually saw a doc who seemed to know what he was talking about. C.T scan ruled out blood clots and been referred to rapid chest pain clinic as doc thinks angina may have morphed into unstable angina.
I was admitted to hospital in January with continuous angina attacks had an angiogram and was told my smaller arteries were calcified and so my Isosorbide was increased from 40mg to 60mg however it had no affect and the frequency of angina increased. A call was arranged with my consultant and my Isosorbide was increased to 120mg taking 60mg morning and 60mg evening ( both slow release type tablets) , which I couldn’t tolerate due to dizziness and nausea. I was told to try and continue as it would take time and II was also prescribed 1500 mg of Ranazoline taken twice daily to work with the Isosorbide. Again the medication wasn’t controlling the angina and I was still having dizzy spells and nausea especially in the morning. Fast forward 5 weeks and return to consultant who now suspects angina is possibly due to spasms and I’m now awaiting a Stress cardiac MRI scan but in the meantime I have to continue with the medication and accept the side effects and manage angina with spray. I can only say that the combination of angina, the medication and the side effects is so overwhelming.
