Nicotine and GTN

Hi all, I have another of my pondering questions. Nicotine I'm led to belive constricts the blood vessels whereas the GTN Spray opens everything up. So...if you have taken a GTN puff and then use a Vape does it negate the benefit of the GTN Spray and if so to what degree? Thanks

Won't the effect from the nicotine, if it does constrict the blood vessels, depend on

a) the strength of nicotine in the vape you use

b) how much you inhale at a go

c) and how many 'goes' you have over the day.

In short how much nicotine you inhale over the day.

By coincidence there is an interesting article on the BBC website today concerning the other stuff you inhale when you vape. Worth a read. And worrying for the 34 year old woman who may have got COPD through vaping and now has a reduced life expectancy.

Yes I have a friend who has COPD and heart disease. She'd really struggled with stopping smoking so she swapped to vaping -- until she ended up blue lighted to hospital because she couldn't breathe. She hadn't had such a bad COPD attack in years.

I was a smoker in my teens and twenties until I gave up aged 27. Over 40 years later they told me I have a mild case of COPD all linked to me smoking all those years ago. Fortunately it is only very mild and and doesn't stop me doing anything, unlike a friend who died because of it . No-one really knows the health hazards associated with vaping, its only been about for a few years unlike smoking. Any hazards may well be serious they may not. Personally I can't see the point. I often think of the old cigarette adverts before smoking became a no-no, 'Craven A - will not affect your throat', 'More doctors smoke Camels than any other cigarette' and wonder if there is a current vaping parallel.

The answer to your question is quite simply Don’t vape or smoke ! I had a HA I Oct’22 and was smoking a pack a day for 45yrs. I didn’t need any advice from anyone and stopped smoking immediately after my treatment to insert a circumflex stent.Apart from breathing much better,no more coughing or smelling foul I’ve saved approx £3500.Im not being critical but cannot understand why anyone would carry on vaping/smoking after heart or lung problems.

54 years of smoking certainly caused my heart attack yet oddly my lung f unction tests totally shocked my doctor. The results were better than a 20 year old. His comment was "How the H*** did you do that?" I've had 2 lung function tests, the first 4 years ago because of breathlessness. No cause found. Same lung results both times. On a smoking cessation course I was advised to vape because I could cut down the amount of nicotine. Tried and quickly stopped. Horrible. The danger now is that kids are taking up vaping because it's legal and they think it's harmless.

Vaping is as bad as smoking .. it’s still putting crap into your lungs displacing the oxygen that should be going into your body & it will result in copd if it isn’t classified as a toxic substance then it should be classified as an irritant

Just don't vape or smoke. I smoked for 20 years and stopped by chewing nicorettes . I found it really quite easy to stop as I loved the orange flavoured ones. Down side was it took me 2 years to get off the gum but at least I wasn't sucking smoke or vapes into my lungs.
