when I started statins I talked to my pharmacist. The effect of statins on anything you ingest, he said, wears off after several hours and he told me that the only thing to avoid was grapefruit juice at breakfast, assuming I take the statin at breakfast time.

However this was five or six years ago so some different research may have been done since then. I certainly dont avoid anything (other than grapefruit juice).

If it’s not on the pack insert I’d have thought all OK but you could speak to the pharmacist that your doc’s group of surgeries employs - ask your receptionist.

The link below is to current NHS advice concerning grapefruit juice and statins. In short if you take simvastatin, avoid grapefruit juice , if you are on atorvastatin, limit intake to less than 1.2 litres a day. Other statins are OK with grapefruit juice.

And as far as other foods are concerned there are no restrictions as far as I am aware and I certainly eat plenty of tomatoes, avacados etc.

If in doubt as to any restrictions with the statin or indeed any medication you are taking read the patient information that comes with it, or find it by a web search. And that also goes for the time to take it. So for example some statins can be taken anytime, like atorvastatin, others have to be taken at night like simvastatin.

Hi, I was about to send the same link as Lowerfield. I doubt you need to worry. I take artovastatin every day with my tomato juice. Made from watered down passata which is pure tomatoes with no added salt and half the price of tomato juice which already has the water and salt added,, plus many other additions.

I take mine at night , 3 hours or so after my final meal . I've been eating avacado and tomatoes from day 1 really. I'm on 80mg and had no problem

I eat a banana most days. I was told you need to eat about 36 bananas a day for it to affect your meds. But I wouldn’t try that at home 😂😂
