I have been changed from bisoprolol to diltiazen because I have bronchiectasus and the bisoprolol was making me a bit wheezy. Does anyone have experience of diltiazen?

An asthmatic patient of mine was successfully treated for paroyxsmal A Fib with metoprolol but it precipitated severe asthmatic symptoms & he was switched to diltiazem. However A Fib recurred & diltiazem was stopped. A cardioselective beta blocker, atenolol has been effective and hasn't provoked asthmatic symptoms.

I switched from Bisoprolol to Diltiazem because Bisoprolol was making me depressed. No problems apart from minor swelling of the ankles (oedema). I'd say go for it but your mileage may, of course, vary.

I have COPD so had to switch from Bisoprolol to Diltiazem, couldn't breathe with the Bisoprolol and Diltiazem gave me the most severe stomach pains and Diarrhoea so now waiting for a alternative.

I've been on Diltiazem for about 15 years or more. To begin with, it was a change in BP med at 240mg as Perindopril was making me cough. When I was diagnosed with AF about 10 years ago, they increased the dose to 300mg and I must say that I have had no problem at all with it but everyone is different. I have now had an ablation and to start with, they took me off the Diltiazem but when I had an AF episode again, they put me back on it. Still no problems so it may well be fine for you. Let's hope so

I was on it prior to my second ablation and found it controlled my Afib without the side effects I had with Bisoporol- which were pretty awful - exhaustion, depression.

After my second ablation I still get relatively mild Afib events occasionally but use Diltiazem as a pill in the pocket with good effect.

As others have said we are all different and react differently but for me it was a game changer.

Best regards

Jeff

thank you for your replies. I have been changed to Diltiazem and also Apixiban from Edoxaban. Although I don’t get any reflux problems, I also have been prescribed Lansopra ole which I don’t really want to take because of the bone and dementia ailment. I haven’t been offered a referral for Abalation Just a scan to check mitral valve which was discovered on my last scan. I would like to try the pill in the pocket as my AFIB is paroxysmal but I am having difficulty getting a consultant appointment through Southampton Does anyone else use pill in pocket?

Not what you're looking for?
