Getting good again
Not eating good? In what way? Too much? too many takeaways?
Interesting major report yesterday on Ultra processed foods. We really need to get away from them but so many foods are UP these days.
I was reading that as well and I honestly find it so confusing, processed/ ultra processed, it seems like a bit of a minefield to try and avoid both. I try and make everything myself but for things like say a stir-fry I buy a little packet which I assume is ultra processed but to make from scratch would not be worth it and I could not live without bread, I would not know what I could eat in it's place π€£π± char
There's actually a bread recipe in the bhf cook book that I have and u can put fillings in it it's delicious not fattening but as for stir fry any veg is good u just have to be careful how u season it do I get all the seasonings out of the bhf cook book also found a website that sells stuff like Italian seasoning abd all purpose seasoning salt free ππ»πͺπ»
I just can't imagine making bread it seems such a faff although I can imagine it's lovely, my partner would probably eat it in a day! He is a bread lover like me, the only veg I can eat are mushrooms and onions πand my partner hates mushrooms, it kind of limits us for what we can make. I am always searching for recipes and I save any that I think we would like. Char
Same as! I gave up trying the Amazon style plant diet and generally eat most what I call normal food like meat, veg, potatoes, roast chicken and sometimes a dessert or a biscuit or two with my after dinner coffee. I do not eat crisps, takeaways, Coca cola type stuff. Love my bread although not in huge amounts and Jam etc. I have a couple of bottles of beer on a Saturday or a Friday night. I think you have to live and I do exercise quite a bit so happy out at this stage of my life. Too easy to brainwash yourself into scruitinising food labels and other data so thats just not for me.
I am the same no crisps, snacks and only water or wine πno fizzy drinks, I tried checking food labels for a while but I found it just too much hassle, char
Love veg sweet potatoes all veg actually all salad just not easy to find exciting recipes to put it all together get bored π
Like salads myself, add a hard boiled egg some beetroot, a salmon darn and a slice of smoked salmon with a little bit of lo fat coleslaw. Vegetables with baby potatoes and a chicken Piri Piri breast with just a little bit of the packet sauce can not do you any harm. π€
We can control something things in life , others we can't control.
Food is something we can control, if the food we eat makes us feel good because as adults we know its healthy for us that's great as it's good for the body and mind.
If the food we eat makes us feel bad, because we know it's not healthy then we can control that too ( its in our power) ,we can make changes to avoid eating bad food which makes us feel bad and the body feel bad.
There are plenty of healthy recipes on the BHF site, and they are very tasty. Give it a visit as it will definitely help you.
But like all of us here it's something you have to invest in.
I am trying to as well to help with recovery from my op and then my pal brought me a cheese board with some beautiful french cheeses from M&S I cannot stop eating it. Why is the most tastiest things not the best things for you π€ char
I don't understand this post.
Are you eating healthy all the time but had one day of bad food? If so we all do it don't stress about it.
Are you eating unhealthy most of the time and need some direction to healthy eating resources?
sorry not being rude but it's not very clear.
No im eating healthy as possible love veg salad all that stuff anyway not a fan of chips crispchocolste but really sometimes crave sausage butty or bacon butty but no I eat really good most of the time just went a little food crazy last week ππ€£
Then forget about it, it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.
the other day at the pub I had dirty fries, fried chicken wings, half a dirty hot dog and chocolate cake for my daughters birthday meal.
we are human it's allowed to happen otherwise what's the point of living.
relax , tension for no reason isn't worth it.
Sounds delicious π π€£π€£πππ»

I've gone plant based and I'll never look back, planning and making is exciting. Meals are nourishing, look and taste good. Replace mince meat with lentils and make lentil curry and cottage pie. Stroganoff with onions and leeks, no cream. Whole wheat pasta, tomato and courgettes. Once you get into it, it's fun. You need to get the shopping right first.
Please message me I would love to try your recipes and food I wouldn't miss meat every recipe will ve great ππ»π€£

Most of my evening meals are one pot dishes like above, once you get into it you start to tweak and create your own versions.
I should also mention if money is tight this is an ideal diet. I estimate I eat three good meals a day for less than Β£3.00 a day, I always make too much so often leftover Chilli etc I'll finish off for lunch the next day.
BTW, find any cottage pie recipe online and replace mince meat with red lentils, this tastes even better when it's been in the fridge overnight and warmed up for lunch the next day.
I also make my own Hummus (chickpea, garlic, and lemon juice), you van mix it up by adding beetroot, carrots and herbes and spices. You will need a blender.
Good luck John
Brilliant thanks
I love eggs on brown bread wholemeal pitta and hummus usually make my own chilli dipping sauce with tomatoes chilli powder lemon onions and I eat a lot a lot of veg stir fry but do have chicken have porridge for breakfast and sometimes beans on toast so trying to eat as good as I can
Eggs are not good, too many calories for their volume. Tinned baked beans are not good either, too much salt if you have high blood pressure. Don't use spread or butter, after a while you don't miss it. I don't make stir fry as it involves oil, my diet no oils or dairy
My goodness may as well stop eatingπ³π€£
That's just wrong stop peddling your anti animal stuff. I follow a Keto diet and have lost 5 stone and all my bloods are in the optimum range. I have also reversed plaguing following a high fat high protein diet. My triglycerides was 0.5 Last blood check.
I am going for a CT as my Cardiologist reckons I may have reversed plaquing.
For my breakfast I usually have 5 eggs and always walk after consuming any carbs.
I wear a CGM and my blood glucose is flat. Yesterday's average was 5.0mmol/l.
The secret to losing weight is to keep your Insulin under control and avoid spikes.
Sometimes I eat bread but very rarely and if I have a slice it's always sourdough.
My only treat is popcorn and I do not drink alcohol.
Just google Insulin Sensitivity and you will find everything you need.
I walk 10k steps and do indoor cycling on average 1 time a day for an hour.
So embrace the fat, eat protein and never eat naked carbs.
Thanks x
I'm not peddling anything, and I am not anti-animal, it works for me, and I was asked for advice by Yodayodz who has expressed a desire to keep it simple. I don't think Googling Insulin Sensitivity and tracking triglycerides is what Yodayodz wants to hearπ
Hi β I'll try to find and share some of the recipes I use. However, there are normally three meals in a day so I'll share my normal breakfasts and lunches. I start every day with Porridge, Kavanagh's from Morrisons is good. I Add fruit, Strawberries, Pear, or Banana and add Sunflower Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds and Chia seeds. For lunch, I create something with some toasted wholemeal bread and make a bruschetta with tomatoes and Balsamic vinegar. Occasionally Avocado or very occasionally peanut butter and banana. I may have 100 grams of wholemeal pasta with chopped tomatoes and garlic and some fresh herbs. Always have a good stock of fruit available if you have the munchies in between meals. If you wanted something different roasted cauliflower with paprika is delicious, I use an air fryer for this, but it isn't necessary, Broccoli stalks also air fry very well, they come out nice and crispy. Losing weight is all about calories in and calories out. If you consume more calories than you burn then you will put on weight. I used to measure my calorie intake, I have no need to do it now as it was always the meat that were the high calorie items. If you wanted to take a deep dive into ins and out you need to calculate your BMR
