I’m post OHS, 6 months ago. Have noticed after walks in the cold a grim chest ache, normally goes after an hour or so. Yesterday was outside for a good couple hours, ambling 3 miles in the cold. “ lung pain “ persisted overnight and into today.
Does this ring any bells for anyone after OHS, any comments welcomed and appreciated. Particularly if you got an explanation and how long it lasted post surgery.
Cheers
Colin

Hi TruymphLover, I haven't had OHS, but would just like to say that if the pain is new or worse than what you have previously had as you say, may be worth ringing your gp or even 111 as it has lasted longer this time. I hope you are feeling better now 🤞Do you not take a GTN Spray atall?
I'm only 3 months postoperative OHS but was told not to spend too long out in the cold, I struggle to breathe in cold air , I would either ring GP or a BHF cardiac nurse on the brilliant helpline to check things if yr still in pain
Thanks for that, I wasn’t told anything about the cold. Then again I was off my nut on meds so maybe they did!! Got the sniffles today , never been so glad as it explains it.
Hope your recovery going ok. Have you got yourself on the list for the cardio health exercise clinic for the next month or two. Would highly recommend.
Hi ColinSadly here in Oxfordshire valve replacement surgery doesnt qualify for cardiac rehab classes yet all other heart issues do, ive enquired right to the very top but computer says NO, waiting lists too big money too short other heart conditions take priority, so if Id had bypass grafts stents heart attack I could go but no
Ive got a very nice rowing machine at home but not allowed back on it yet till seen cardiologist on March 11th so Ive just got a pair of weak tottery legs and diabetes and am working my way back alone through a daily wobbly walk lol
hi, i will be two years in march from triple bypass.
When i did my cardiac rehab sessions we were warned about the cold air aggravating the lung, it would improve overtime and to wear a face cover while out and about if it was cold.
I had a couple of times where i thought, no it’s heart attack, but then calmed down and knew it was my rh lung, mind the pain didn't go through to the next day. I did take paracetamol to ease the pain. I also talked it over with my cardiac support nurse. Plus call 111 if it’s that bad, i can’t use a GTN spray so in those early days every twing was a heart attack or worse. ( talk about being paranoid.
I was extra careful when i went out on my motorbike, even though it was a good 8 month later i made sure my face was covered.
yes i had a Kawasaki VN900 which i own for 14 years. Thought that’s it i wont be able to ride bike. My surgeon was a keen motorcyclist and was very supportive explained that my sternum would need to be real well healed because the angular stresses would be great through the bars , than a steering wheel. He joked “ no power steering on a bike”
last year with the great support of my wife and Family we upgrade to a 21 plate gen 6 DCT Goldwing, in the immortal words of her in doors “your getting your dream bike or get a divorce. “
i will be 70 in april and as the daughter say “ Dad you died get of your **** & live some”
you’ve got love your kids for telling it the way it is.
So be patient and you will get through it and enjoy the rest of life.👍
