Hi all, anyone had Costochondritis start several years after OHS? Had OHS during the covid pandemic but have now started getting chest pains. Doctors have diagnosed Costochondritis. Just wandering if it’s related to the OHS I had previously. Any thoughts?

Not according to the NHS article about it - search in the NHS website.

For me my Costochondritis is caused by inflammation, and with the host of chronic illnesses I have the culprit could be any of them, although it's usually Fibromyalgia. Although scary when it happens, I usually hedge my bets, and take anti-inflammatories and heartburn tablets then put on a meditation video from YouTube to calm my nerves.

I've had costochondritis for years without any heart surgery,It's quite possible that the surgery has made you prone to inflammation round that area. There's no guessing when or why it flares up but it is terribly difficult to decide whether it's heart or muscular. My cardio simply said "Press on it. If it hurts it's costo" but I'm never 100% certain. I find that an anti inflammatory gel helps to ease it

Thanks Qualipop, I didn’t think it was the heart at the time, but as you say it’s not easy to tell. Feeling much better now and just taking ibuprofen as the doctor suggested. I did wonder if the OHS would make me more prone to it hence the post.

Take care

I don't think it would particularly make you more prone to it. It just seems to be an inflammatory thing that comes and goes with no trigger but the surgery could have started it off. GP won't let me take anti inflammatory tablets. IN any case they crucify my stomach so I have feldene gel instead.
