Hi,Looking for other's experiences in relation to being declared medically fit to drive after surrendering a driving licence. I'm currently awaiting an appointment with the arrythmia clinic at the hospital following an SVT diagnosis. If its discussed with a Dr and it's deemed safe at my appointment, is it a case of contacting the DVLA with evidence such as a letter to inform them, and how soon could driving recommence?
Many thanks.

I had a stroke and had to wait 4 weeks to be able to drive again. My GP gave me the OK if I remember correctly. My first drive was a trip to Germany to collect my Velomobile before we left the EU. I never surrendered my driving licence though.
The short of it is (at least for an ICD), it's 6 months clear then the consultant fills in the forms that DVLA should of sent you. DVLA part can take up to 2 months apparently.
Thank you for your reply. On my letter its not clear if its a medical letter needed or whether we just have a discussion and they say I'm ok to drive. I need to order a D1 pack to reapply. There is a questionnaire in this pack so I'd guess if everything is OK I'd just tick the boxes. Good idea to order the forms beforehand, I've already done that, so hoping they will be here in time for my appointment and I can take them with me.
I hope things get sorted for you and wish you the best.
I would be inclined to call the DVLA and check, the medical line seem quite good. I know for heart attacks you don't need to surrender your licence and just need a GP/Doctor OK after 4 weeks, if SVT is in the same category i'm surprised you were asked to surrender.
