What’s your good news?

Hi all,

It is far from easy but I am learning to appreciate every little new step (or baby steps) and keep faith in my recovery.

I think it’s important to remember to be proud of ourselves, even when the progress seems minimal.

So this post is to exchange on our latest achievements. What did you manage to do? Or what are the symptoms you don’t have anymore?

OK, 23 weeks post OHS and had 2 x PCI, AVR and CABG.

I was terribly breathless before my op and could get a tightening of my chest, no real pain though. No discomfort at all now although I can still get the odd tweak from my chest muscles if I try to do too much, that is improving week by week as I continue to heal. Scars are all good, the one on my leg is really only noticeable if I get cold.

Started doing the local parkrun (5km) at 3 months, taken a big chunk of time off my original attempt and now at 41:40. That's the sort of time I was doing 12 years ago. Definitely not a runner but loving the runs and will try to do a bit more in better weather. Before surgery I could walk a maximum of about 600 metres before having to stop to get my breath back.

I like good news and while it is good to share how we are doing, it is also important to remember we are all different and so are our hearts.We can all improve and walk further, hopefully starting back things we had to stop. For me getting back driving again after an ICD will be good news and mean I can get back to work. After HA, stents, and bypass my good news was being able to walk well enough to ref walking football.

Each day I feel is a blessing and I take inspiration from friends at my rehab class and on this group to think about what else I can do. So be encouraged in doing more while remembering to be kind to yourself and not to judge your progress against others.

Hi that is a good spirit. I am 6 weeks after PCI .First 2 weeks was quite a struggle. Yesterday I my rehab assessment and I have been doing brisk walking for the past 5 weeks. However like you I am still taking things slowly and carefully listening to my body. Hope it will progress to a good recovery for all of us here xx

Good morning....totally agree with you about being proud of ourselves....and it's not always easy to make even the smallest steps forward. I think it's important to remember that recovery isn't always 'textbook' ...we are all different and even if we've had the same operations or health problems, progress is sometimes very different for each person. Health issues can be a real struggle for some so any achievement or advance forward on any scale should be a proud moment.👍😁 . I hope you continue to make your own progress and importantly....stay proud of it. Take care xx

After a bout of flu in January when I was hospitalised for 3 weeks I came out a stone and a half lighter and on a walker. I've concentrated on getting my strength back and putting some weight back on. I'm now doing 2 chair yoga sessions a week, walking, and after an echo and ECG in August EF has improved to 50% LV now mild to moderate. It's been a bit of a battle but I'm now better than I was before I went into hospital. Onward and Upward hearties xx

I had a HA a few years ago now, no problems after , but I have been trying to get as healthy as I can . My little bit of good news is that I have reversed my diabetes numbers through healthy eating and lost 2 stone into the bargain , I still have a way to go yet but these small victories are so important to keep motivated.

Heart attack 5 years ago last week. Still here. Now if they coud do something about the horrific worsening pain in my shoulders, neck and hips, I'd be dancing.
