There is a lot of misinformation about statins which you should be very wary of. Statins are widely used to reduce cholesterol and stabilise plaque that may have built up in arteries. In your case with a total cholesterol of 8+ the medical view is that it should be reduced for your long term benefit and although lifestyle, exercise, diet etc will help, it is not the solution. So whilst there are some statin side effects to deal with for a small minority (I understand less than 10%), on the whole the benefits far outweigh any risks to your health. I have been taking statins fro 25 years or so due to a natural chlesterol of 9+ and firmly believe I would not be here without them.

If you are 'statin intolerant' due to side effects and have a natural cholesterol of 7 to 8 perhaps coupled with a high non HDL level your GP should be considering offering you alternative form of cholesterol reducing and management medication, such as ezetimibe. I suggest you revert to your GP to discuss this and also ask about the possibility of attending a lipid clinic.

Thankyou. He did prescribe me Omacor .I am really unsure about taking them as listed in the side effects sounds similar to what i had experienced with the others like Rosevestatin etc .yikes its so scary as i have only just got over the pains in my stomach and back .so its been 3 weeks since Rosevastatin .
