anyone knows how to get a card to show in case of emergency ?
Hi there,
When I got my ICD, I was given a card to carry when I left the hospital. Have you checked your info packs?
What happened in Italy?
In Italy they gave me one, but i can't show that here because is in italian i need one that i can carry with me in London
Presumably you're under a pacing clinic in the UK? If so I would ask them to supply you with one. Other than that all cards, regardless of which country it has been issued in, are universally recognised and accepted. In the event of any hospital needing further information there will be a phone number on the card for them to call & all other relevant details. My husband has one that looks like a credit card & that has all the relevant details printed on it.
If your usual place of residence is Italy then it's unlikely you'll get an English one the cards are issued by the pacing clinic you attend for check ups.
At work they told me that i could get one from the BHF but i honestly don't know how. The one they gave in Italy it's a square hard piece of paper and I'm afraid to carry that with me everywhere because if that get damaged it would be difficult for me to travel..
You could phone the BHF nurses ( I'll find the number for you shortly) and ask them but I'd be surprised if they're able to supply a card. My husbands first ICD came with an A4 piece of paper that after a while was almost illegible because the ink ran & was so creased up from being in his wallet that it practically fell to pieces, he never had any trouble traveling but his pacing clinic did post another card out to him when we asked. He now has a newer ICD & he has a credit card with the details on it.
Failing all else, why not just photocopy the back & front of the card you do have and carry the copy with you? That way you've always got the original if the copy does fall apart.
Is your pacing clinic in the UK or Italy?
I believe this is the BHF number you need.

I was given a large sheet of paper, so I copied the important details onto a piece of card which I keep with my phone. I also filled in the emergency details accessible from the lock screen.
I too got the piece of paper from the cardiologist, I keep the original in a safe place, and carry a scanned copy in my wallet - with the scan also saved to my phone as a pdf document.
