abberant right subclavian artery

hi

At my FMU appointment today, they detected that my baby girl has aberrant right subclavian artery which was hiding behind her windpipe. This could be something to do with her oesophageal and her heart. I took NIPT test last month and so and it was negative.

Did your baby had ARSA? What were symptoms and the treatments?

Could do with your support and welcome your share of experience with your baby ARSA.

I may have more appts with Cardio forthcoming and plan ahead with birthing.

Hello,

It must have been a shock to learn that your unborn baby has an aberrant right subclavian artery.

Antenatal screening tests such as non invasive prenatal testing NIPT are screening tests rather than diagnostic tests.

The results give a potential risk of certain conditions.

Have you been in contact with your midwife?

Have you been referred to a specialist children's heart centre?

These units can offer even more advanced ultrasound and other relevant testing if necessary.

The Children's Heart Federation has a helpline line and they maybe able to put you in touch with other parents.

There is also Tiny Tickers another support group for families with babies born with heart problems.

I wish you all the very best.

I’m sorry to hear about your unborn baby. Unfortunately I don’t have direct experience of that particular congenital defect (I am a congenital heart disease patient myself), but what I know if so if I were in your shoes is to push for a referral with a paediatric cardiologist and understand all the facts such as survival rates/ safe birth plans/after birth care/possibility of surgery etc.

The more prepared you arrive to the birth, the better will be for your baby.

Best of luck to you and your baby ❤️

Sending you and sweet little one all our support
