Just wondering how many of you, who have or have had abdominal aortic aneuryms, ever experienced back and side pain. I've had a dull ache for 3 months now and I'm wondering if it's related to my aneurysm getting bigger, and pressing on other organs, particularly my right kidney area. It's 5.1 cm and I'm due surgery in the next few weeks, and this pain is inexplicable. I'd been asymptomatic for years. Test after test has shown nothing nasty, so I'm a t loss to explain.
hope you can help.
Many thanks
Dean

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this pain. According to the NHS website, back pain is a symptom of an AAA once it grows larger in size. As yours measures at 5.1cm, I believe your aneurysm is on the larger side.
Thanks Tos. Yeah, I guess it's all part and parcel. I realise now that AAA is maybe the wrong term to use for what is actually an ascending aortic aneurysm, which is what I have, not an abdominal one.Either way I'm due surgery soon , so I'm not overly panicked.
Hi there iam glad that you are near to having your operation for your Aortic abdominal aneurysm. Have you been on the waiting list along time for your operation. How are you coping? When I found out in June this year that the measurement of my Aortic is at 4cm I started to get Anxious and to also deal with panic attacks. To tell you the truth, iam not coping anymore, I have started to get fast heart rate and thumping, high and low blood pressure, burning sensation in my back, lay worried in bed and can't sleep and I don't like to go out on my own now. Good luck and take care.
Cheers Jay Jay....mine is actually an ascending aortic aneurysm ...the triple AAA abbreviation can be confusing. Sorry to hear you're stressing with a 4cm aneurysm. Rest assured the docs know what they are doing and a 4cm isn't too risky. I could be years before you have to have surgery. Mine was actually stable for about 7 years and then decided to put a spurt on. The minute the docs saw it had gone up to 5.2cm (and with a biscupid valve) they decided to act. Still waiting on a date , but I'm pretty sure it will be this side of christmas.
Try not to worry too much mate., as I said you could be years away from surgery. Just keep as fit and healthy as you can and you should be in the best shape when the day comes. And think on, it's far far better that you know you've got an aneurysm. We're the lucky ones cos it means we'll get the life saving surgery we need one day. Unlike those who never knew they had a problem till it was too late.
