Hi has anyone had a cataract op done after having a heart attack, they told me that l had to see my cardiologist first before they could do it because of a chance of a blood clot forming in my eye that could cause me to loose my sight in that eye , so now lm feeling concerned.

Hello I had a cataract done about a year after my quad bypass and all was fine. However we are all different so I would definitely get checked out beforehand with the consultant. Take care, Judi

yes I had heart op then eye surgery. Both very good ops, nothing to worry about. Of course you will tell the eye staff about your current meds and your recent medical history. They will check out things like BP.

In my area I go to an opticians for the preliminaries.

You might be asked to stop some of your meds for a week or two immediately before the eye surgery.

It's worth double checking with your Cardiologist just to give you peace of mind.It depends on how soon the cataract operation is after your heart attack among other things.

Your eye surgeon probably just wants you to let them know that your cardiologist says you are good to go and has given you advice to reduce any risks after the operation.

Take care , Bee

I've seen the opthalmologist and am on the waiting list for cataract surgery. She paid no attention to my heart attack which was 5 years ago; only asked if I take anticoagulants which I don't except aspirin. My big problem was that spinal damage means I can't lie flat on my back so she wanted to do it under sedation even though that will cause the exact same problems with my spine. Why can't they do it with you sitting up or reclining?
