Omeprezole and eye problems

I have recently started taking Omeprezole and noticed a bit of blurred vision. I'm going to ask the doctor if there is an alternative PPI I can take but I'd be interested to know if anyone else experienced eye problems.

Thankyou

I’ve not had any issues with PPIs affecting my vision however, blurred vision is a side effect of Omeprazole. I hope the GP can find a suitable alternative for you.

All the best.

Hi have you considered getting an eye test / seeing an optician just in case any issues there? Maybe rule that out?

I take lansoprazole but I know my glasses need changing 🤓I haven’t associated blurred vision with the PPI though - interesting!

this list does make reference to vision in side effects though.

good luck

Thanks for your reply.

I am under a specialist for existing ocular hypertension and have to take daily medication but I have definitely noticed a worsening of my vision after taking omeprezole for a few days. Left it off for a few days and vision improved.

I'm taking daily aspirin so unfortunately need a PPI of some sort.

Will try to speak to a doctor this week.

Thanks

Hello,

Have you had a look at the patient information leaflet for the list of possible side effects of Omeprezole?

The British National Formulary has this information which you may find helpful

bnf.nice.org.uk/drugs/omepr...

Visual disturbances are listed as a rare side effect, occurring in 1 in a 1000 patients.

Perhaps have a discussion with your Pharmacist or GP about this issue too?

Thanks for your reply.

Looks like I might be the 1 (in a 1000) then!

That's unfortunate 😕

I take Lansoprazole as I am on Clopidogrel and have ended up with gastric bleeds.

I am having my second colonoscopy tomorrow as a result.

That's awful for you! I found myself on Lansoprazole following by bypass September last. After 4 months I found myself suffering from terribly loose stools😐 but couldn't switch to Omeprezole as like yourself I was on Clopidogrel. At that point I came across some info to the effect that in the States at 90 days post bypass unlike the UK they consider the risk of bleeds exceeds the risks of clotting and they discontinue Clopidogrel.

After a brief chat with very knowledgeable nurse at the BHF I kicked the Clopidogrel+ Lanzoprazole into touch and after reading your post I'm so glad I did.

Hoping everything goes well following your test.

Best wishes,

Denis
